The Old Folks Home

Wish I could do this...........OMG.....Had so many dreams. The 10 sounds better. We used to look at modulars and I tell ya, I've seen many that I like better than some houses. Just think...You could get goats to help clear!!! OMG!!!!!! I'm so excited for you, you just have no idea. I think the 10 acres is so much better. Besides. You could end up with neighbors to close who end up trying to phase out your chickens and then you'll be at square one. Not worth worrying about.

GO LINDA!!!!

OH I WANT TO KNOW HOW!! What milk? Cow or goat?

Mozzarella is really pretty simple. You need rennet (liquid or tablet), some citric acid and some coarse salt and a gallon of unpasteurized milk. And a thermometer.
I bought a gallon of unpasteurized cow milk to do each recipe.
This has everything you need: http://www.cheesemaking.com/30-Minute-Mozzarella-Ricotta-Kit.html

Oh I need a goat-- will you be selling the kids?????????

I haven't even bred my goat yet! My adult girl died in March, so I had to start over again with a new baby. I changed breeds to LaMancha too, because I couldn't stand the screams of the nubian. I was planning on keeping the kid with the mom so I only had to milk once a day.

Have him start the dough for the crust now:

Thank you! He didn't have pizza ready when I got home so I emailed him this for tomorrow. In his defense, he did grade the driveway, clean the house and do laundry and dishes.

Don't go to small on acres.I've been on 2+acres for about 3 yrs now and I am quickly out growing it.Between the house, garage, guest house,1/2 acre of lawn 3/4 acre garden, dog run, and chickens we are running out of space. We thought 2 acres would be enough after living on a single town lot but now I would have gone for 4 or 5 acres. We won't move again but I wish we had thought ahead more when buying. Luckily the vacant field behind us is up for sale so maybe we can expand.

And I'm on 4.5 acres and it is NOT enough. I definitely need more land. One of the things I learned to look at was not just size of the land but layout. I had looked at a few places that were >50 acres, but the house was right next to someone elses house because the lot was narrow and all the land was in the back, behind the house. If I want to buy 50 acres, I want privacy. My 4.5 acres is pretty private (I can go outside naked and not worry about anyone seeing me) and I live almost at the end of a dead end dirt road, so there's little to no traffic, too.
I'm not yet to the point of wanting to move. My goat house and chicken coop are built here, and fenced, I love my house - just wish it had more land.

I am so happy your mom like my Hickory syrup! we had some on some chicken last night and it was soooo good!

Hopefully she will get her nerves calmed down and her diet back under control.

I don't know why you think of my Hickory syrup as smokey though? I don't! I know while it is cooking it keeps me hungry all day!

I don't know either....brain fart?? heehee Just imagine being in the woods with a fire nearby, making smores, yada yada....:th

You guys reminded me of something I saw once during Thanksgiving time. A news man that was in the middle of a huge flock of turkeys, making noise, so they would make noise. Now, in this video..I think I got just as much of a kick out of the guy making the turkeys make noise, than the turkeys making noise! lol....it almost starts sounding like they are laughing at him.

Cynthia, that is EXACTLY what turkeys do! It's as infinite as a child asking "Why?" after every answer to a question. The Tom has to have the last gobble.

I've "caught" my neighbors in gobblefests with Sarge. It ends only when the people stop the game by not responding.

Without a trigger, the toms just go back to doing something else. My Tom, Sarge, will hang around, hopefully, in near-full display, waiting for someone to gobble again.

Full grown men get a particular kick out of it. ;)

I love it! My DH does that to get our turkeys going!

But no dinner? B- at best.

I know, right? I had to microwave my own Chick'n Nuggets. In all fairness, he thought since I was working until 8 that I'd bring dinner to eat at work, and he had to get up at 5 today to be at work so he didn't want to eat late. I also didn't get home until around 9 anyway due to having to stay late so my pizza probably would have been cold.

I'm in charge of making Ron's crust today, we'll be having the pizza today.
