The Old Folks Home

Well, you folks are right: I am am signing offer paperwork this evening on an 8.28 acre parcel. Trees everywhere, tons of moss-covered rock outcroppings making waterfalls during the winter when seasonal streams are active. Two large flat spots, one with a one-room cabin and a killer deck (as in just wonderful, does need some repair so it doesn't become a real "killer"), a long-ignored, fenced garden with a drip system and concrete paths, and the other open flat spot would suit a manufactured home and septic system "someday.". A nice, big coop would fit really well at one edge, with a large run..... Those would be the first projects.

There is an apple tree, a peach or apricot tree (not sure which - no fruit on it), and some grapes on a tilted arbor. Oregano, lemon mint, marjoram and Rosemary plants have run wild in the garden area. Lots of wild blackberry brambles at the edges of the clearings.

There is evidence of a possible, long gone marijuana grow site across the currently dry stream bed in a well-hidden portion of the property. Lots of old white PVC irrigation pipe leading to it.

There are two sheds, both need repair but one needs far less work to be serviceable.

The property has been on the market well over a year. I have often driven by it and always thought it would be far too expensive to even think about checking out. Of course, until recently, I wasn't looking. But I admired the fancy wrought iron gate and front fence. It's an electric gate, with keypad operation. As if a mansion or an estate was behind it.

I have often seen a Black Autralorp wandering freely in the driveway of the property across the road. A rooster crowed nearby during our walk-around.

Sellers are "motivated.". I am very hopeful and have some wiggle room with my initial offer.
my crystal ball is rarely wrong

A great end to a crappy week here. Came home from work today to find my favorite chicken dead under the coop with a broken egg hanging out of her butt.

She had a broken leg when I got her as a chick. I casted it, separated her, and gave her chicken PT for 2 weeks until she was better. As a result, she never thought she was a chicken; she'd follow me around like a dog, and try to sneak into the house. She was never part of the flock and would always be off wondering around by herself or with me if I was outdoors. I am going to severely miss my buddy.
well that plain sucks SCG

time for a stiff drink

I had that happen this year--The pullet was nearly killed bye bigger Hens and I spent months nursing her along--she ruptured scar tissue below her vent and died one afternoon a couple of weeks after she joined the layer flock.

So sorry for the loss of your bird. Sounds like she was a great companion.
