Oz, I think I'll email her your recipe and see if I can get her head to explode.

Oz, I think I'll email her your recipe and see if I can get her head to explode. Do you get it mixed off site or do you mix yourself?
This might make her snap out of it!! ANd realize feeding them commercial pellets is the easy part. DOes she have a bin feeder? NOthing like dumping 50# in a feeder and not having to do anything but check it each day. And put in water of course.

My birds free range but even now they depend more on the pellets.

Yesterday, I was feeling less than optimum, so I got a late start going to the Ranch. The young pullets in the "partial" flock there have started to lay just as the older hens at the Homestead are slowing down. I have yet to ask for friends to specifically assist me in "gathering" more hens and a couple more cockerels to move to the Ranch. I would prefer to work on that project after dusk when they are roosting than chase 'em down during the day. These are the birds which roost in the coop rafters or the apple tree....

So I was ruminating on this issue as I pulled into the parking lot at The Pub. The afternoon chef was outside stoking the pizza oven when I pulled into the parking lot. He asked how I was doing and commented on my "Good enough" reply. Yah, good enough is good enough, I thought, but apparently something about my delivery caught his attention.

When my order of Chicken Tenders arrived, it was pretty special.

Even the leaf of greens - some sort of dark, leafy green lettuce - under the food was a heart shape.

It did cheer me up. I bet it would cheer ANYbody able to consume cheese, bacon slivers and fried foods. :D

That picture makes me hungry.....

Mine get commercial pellets, and lots of kitchen scraps. I can't walk out side with a bowl with out every chicken running to meet me. TOday they feasted on lots of scraps, tomorrow I have more for them. Bananas, apple cores, nuked carrots, leftover sandwhich crusts, . . . with 2 kids she must have food like that to give to the birds. My birds get out side when the sun is up. Used to be after 2nd child was on the bus, now it is after the 1st one is on the bus.
We have a three day fridge rule for leftovers at my house, so my chickens get lots of leftovers. If I'm cooking, and I have the doors open(screen doors shut) they stand on the porches and beg for tidbits. We dehydrated lots of bananas and apples this summer, as well, so now that it's getting colder I sometimes make them oatmeal with fruit. They nearly rip my arms off to get at the bowl. Spoiled brats is what they are.

I love that chickens will eat almost anything, so I don't have to eat my kids left overs anymore, as I hate waste. The extras are good healthy food around here. I toss all bones to the chickens and they pick them clean, then the bones decompose in the large fenced coop.

SCG--people often have different priorities, kids can be very distracting from everything else, just keep trying to help her see what needs doing.
