Domestic Ducks, Dual purpose or layer, should lay nearly all year long--more than Leghorns. They really need animal protein and fairly high protein too.

Costco sells a Kirkland brand cat food that has Salmon and Fish meal in it.

Fyi Linda-- if they really need protein, check out a bag of cat food. I have to admit I have tossed handfulls in to the pool too. Gone by the end of the day.

Y'know, I know that, and occasionally feed kitty kibble to the entire flock! not just the ducks. But when I "treat" just the ducks, it's with dog kibble. When raising ducklings, I would often find them scarfing up dog kibble when they got out of their brooders. Once they were living outside full-time, if they found a door open, they would sneak in and make straight for the dog dishes. "Ducks prefer dog kibble to cat kibble," I guess I supposed. In reality, the cat food has always been kept in dishes on special, higher surfaces, because DOGS prefer CAT kibble. The ducks never had access to the cat kibble!

For 50kg its Php 2600 - about $65

But its a staggering 70% protein.

It it pricey! A less expensive option is Calf Mana but it does have soy in it.

Duck eggs are worth it though. Do they ever make a good cake!

That is an amazing difference between your place and Maine.

You're not kidding. Summer and winter are very odd here (I was hoping an AK would chime in) - very dark in winter, very light in summer. My dad came to visit the first year I was here, and I told him to make sure the shade was down in his window, that it starts to get light about 330 in the morning. He called shenanigans, but when I got up that morning, he was already up, in the kitchen and sheepishly told me that I was right.

Speaking of extreme - we also have amazing tides here. I went to the Bay of Fundy a number of years ago and watched the tide come in. It was awe inspiring to see these large boats sitting on the muck at the bottom of a drained area, and see the water line so many feet up the dock. When you drive across the Casco Bay bridge in Portland, sometimes there's no water underneath you, just muck. Smells great.
