SCG to a Tee.

Quote: 6 weeks?? You must have a super special immune system to have kicked mono to the curb already!

Less chores, too, with one less horse.

I can't get my tires swapped over at any other time than 11 today, so there's not enough time this morning to get Caramel pregnant, and probably not enough time afterwards before dark. BF is leaving today around 11 also so I won't have an additional person in the car to minimize the potential for a goat to be loose in the car while I'm driving on the interstate. It's times like these that I feel lonely up here. Ah, well, maybe her next heat cycle we will be more lucky.
SHe probably isn't out of season yet-- get her there asap, or plan again as she will be back in season in less than 3 weeks. My rams handle the job here, and he usually pesters a girl over several days.

I did a little online shopping yesterday.......ordered a 1500 from GQF Mfg for a certain someone on my list............. I'm trying not to be too excited..............

All day today has been spent getting psyched up for the IRON BOWL! For you non-football people, it is Alabama vs Auburn, just the biggest cross state rivalry in the country, always played the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and this year will decide who is the SEC West champion and who goes on to play for the National Championship (Alabama's THIRD in a row which hasn't been done by any team in nearly 50 years!!) Yeah, it's kinda a big deal .

Roll Tide Roll!
Go Bama!
Drown 'em Tide!
Rrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllll TIDE!

I did those earlier this week..the errands. I'm not one to risk my life out and about on Black Friday weekend....too skeery!! DH took a nap.....kitten is taking naps.....hen is trying to get back to normal.

I don't blame you there. DH went to a store Wednesday afternoon, and when the cashier smiled and said, "Thanks, come again soon!" he said, "Oh, this is the last time I'll be in a store until after the first of the year." I did have to run to the grocery store today for a few odds and ends, and it was quiet - guess everyone is at the mall, which is fine with me!

SCG (and anybody else who wants to know), I am finally over my cold. It freakin' lingered! I am getting 2, sometimes 3 eggs a day from the home flock of twenty-some hens and laying pullets, and 4 eggs a day from the six girls at The Ranch - two of those six girls are not yet laying. Two Cayuga ducks (out of ummmmmmm ten? Girls) are laying regularly. Finally found a couple of duck egg customers. Next door neighbor with my phone number and a hatred for rooster crowing had grandkids over the past week, so we conversed over the fence when he was letting them feed my flock through the fence. They were fascinated by Nigel Narragansett and Sarge Midget White, so I picked Sarge up and took him to the fence so little people could touch his feathers and neck stuff. Neighbor thanked me for the reduction in crowing.... Yeah, fifteen fewer cockerels does make it quieter around here. The Thistle Dew Ranch is immediately adjacent to a vineyard owned by by one of The Pub owner/partners; his house is in the middle of 28 acres so he says he never hears my roosters unless he is working outside at the edge of his property. He does know the story of my Ranch land purchase, so he almost ALWAYS ends partings with "Keep those /&$!!@&* roosters quiet." (Pronounced like the family name in Meet The Fockers - he is British.). He tells the most ribald jokes, now that he knows I am a "regular" person, not stuffy. My close friends treated me to a movie and then Thanksgiving Dinner at The Diamond Hotel (in Diamond Springs.) I believe I just may eat there again- all those customers all day long and the ONLY discernible "not-scratch" item was the crust for the pumpkin pie! The filling was not store-bought, nor were the gravy, mashed potatoes, OR the cranberry sauce. Turkey meat was excellent. What's a good West Coast price to charge for fresh duck eggs? Is $6.00 too low for a dozen?

Linda what movie did you see? Would you please post a movie review on my movie thread?

What you really need to do Linda, is get neighbor's grand kids to clamor for chickens (and Roosters) so grandpa has to start raising them himself. Maybe, just maybe you could call & complain about HIS Roos then. Just work on getting the kids to the chicken/duck/turkey -side - he'll be putty in their hands. Insert evil laugh here

I'm glad you are feeling better and that your birds are laying.

I'm baking hubbard squash custard pie right now with homemade crust. (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Grandm...ustard&e8=Quick Search&event10=1&e7=Home Page - I use pumpkin pie spicing plus some baking spice) It smells soooo good. Made one last year and almost ate the whole thing, myself. Next to go in the oven is my two weekly loaves of bread that have almost risen, now BF is making homemade carrot cake (and icing) so that'll go in third, then he wants cookies. I told him I was done cooking today, so he's making the cookies, too. We are going to have sweet dreams with all these smells in the house tonight. The turkey is brining, and that smells delicious, too. We unfortunately had to suck it up and buy store bought eggs today. Sacrilegious!
