The Old Folks Home

Speaking of being snow-bound, if I had waited one more day before trying to drive anywhere, I MIGHT have not totaled my ride. However, as of yesterday, the ice on the road to Thistle Dew Ranch still had long stretches of ice requiring snow tires and/or 4-wheel drive. Another friend - who drives a4-wheel drive pick-up - has been givine me rides to The Ranch every 2 or 3 days. I have learned I picked a popular icy spot spot for vehicular rollovers. "We" also think I may have suffered a mild concussion in my accident. Untreated, of course.... I wish I could make an MP4 or .wav file of the voice mail message I left for HHandbasket immediately after the accident, asking her to please pick up some feed for my flock(s), Not sure it would have been understandable past the first sentence, though. She said she got the extremely calm "I totaled the Quest but I'm okay - I rolled it on my way to Mt. Aukum (General Store)" The next bit she could suss out through hysterical sobbing was "...so my (expletive deleted) chickens won't starve." I don't think I have ever labeled any of my poultry - individually OR collectively- with that particular Anglo Saxon adjective. Even with the past two days of near-60 temps, there is unmelted snow and ice in a few places on my home property and quite a lot of it at the Ranch. Angus the gander came running at Treat Time and took a corner on some ice. Whoa! I laughed so much at him when he lost his footing and slid on his belly a few feet before he recovered. When he got back up onto his feet, he honked once with indignation. At least that's what I imagined. I dislike being beholden to others for transportation, .

Linda, I really like my Suzuki Crossover with AWD and studded snow tires. My driveway is uphill, has a hairpin turn, and is in shadow all day. It's an icy mess, and I've never had a problem in the Suzuki. Now my Neon, that was another story. I spent many nights trudging up the driveway after parking at the end of it. So find something with AWD and put some studded tires on it, and you'll have a little tank.

Negative 18 out there this morning - kinda takes your breath away. I went to bed really early last night because today's my early day, and apparently FedEx came while I was sleeping and left a package on the doorstep. Hopefully it wasn't something cold-sensitive.

Have a great day, y'all.

We have a DOS based system at work that is a backdoor into the GUI system that almost everyone else at work uses. All the young people in our department complain about it when they first arrive - until they start to use it and realize how effective it is. All the other departments complain about it because they only use it occasionally and haven't mastered it. It isn't a perfect system but I like it a lot.

...

I haven't mastered LINUX because I don't really have the time but I like that too, talk about secure.
I built a LINUX system for my kids as a backup when they were moving from grade school to high school. They didn't like it but they used it.

It has stayed below freezing for most of the last 2 weeks here with snow. We're getting a reprieve this week. Only 28 now and after tonight it will stay above freezing for about 4 days before the next snow storm.
Humidity has hovered around 90% though for a while now.

My wife wanted to get an Apple Smart Phone , we had Android, until I explained that she was going to have to learn everything over and that she could not call me and ask how to do something because I would have a different phone and would not know how to operate her phone. Needless to say she got another one just like mine.
