The Old Folks Home

Why go for this update? I just had to update/replace my puter also (old one popped & snapped and puffed out smoke when I turned it on last week) I now have Win 8.0, why 8.1?

See how fast technology is? Go buy a new computer, and you are behind the times as soon as you walk through your front door.

I believe they are coming out with 8.2 that covers the glitches . Who knows.

My son works for Microsoft and he doesn't think I can deal with 8.0 etc. What he means is he is tired of doing "remotes" to straighten out all the messes I get into. Well I tell him I am better on the computer than he is trimming dogs. He has never tried but, I was a groomer. I never wanted to use a computer. I can't work the buttons on the microwave. But he wanted me to come out of the dark ages. Which reminds me when he comes to visit I need him to change a few light bulbs. I'm too old to be climbing step ladders .

I can learn. Once I learned that reading and pushing buttons got results without createing problems--- I push buttons. I hate getting a new microwave-- every model is different. Argh.

THough the NEW versions are supposed to be better?

I thought so too. It took me a long time to abandon it. I liked DOS too.
I do love the multitasking though that 95 started though.

I take that back I think windows 2000 professional was the best by far. Very crash proof and security was outstanding.

Crash proof? Security?

As soon as I have my PC " cleaned" it is infected again . . . .. arggh . I feel less secure now than at anytime . . . . between cookies that steal info and advertising to match my searches----NOT GOOD. It is creepy.

You never used windows 2000 did you? It was an improved version of NT. I had it on a laptop for about 10 years.
I was so disappointed when MS quit supporting it and new versions of IE were incompatible.

8.1 returns the start button and it returned my sanity.

no bragging. i had to turn on the ac for half an hour. it was 85 in my bedroom when i got home

time for more ssleep

8.1 also reverses some of the other stupidity of 8.0 and is a lot more stable. The new version is free to anyone who bought a computer with 8.0 on it. I love the return of the start button too but with no instructions supplied it took me a bit to out how I was supposed to shut it down. I mean really! Who ever heard of Microsoft making anything easier????

As for the bragging? We had -23 @ 6:30 this morning, GEESH.

We have a DOS based system at work that is a backdoor into the GUI system that almost everyone else at work uses. All the young people in our department complain about it when they first arrive - until they start to use it and realize how effective it is. All the other departments complain about it because they only use it occasionally and haven't mastered it. It isn't a perfect system but I like it a lot.
