The Old Folks Home

I do have to say that the snow does make for pretty pictures in their own way. Yesterday we got up around 30 degrees and I swear I must be getting used to the cold because it almost felt "balmy" outside. Only one extra layer needed to go out and take pictures.

BTW snow also makes finding deer a lot easier.

Don't they say - play is child's work!! Maybe it's kids who say that. They do tend to play hard but, no energy for chores. Hmm.

So true!!!

Quote: Good planning--all my birds are in though not because of the snow but because of a predator. THe lock up is working -- we are not feeding it the night predator anymore.

ANd the storm moved a bit north giving us rain--- light and fluffy is now wet and slushy-- all 1000 feet of the drive.

Earlier this morning I got the stoves back up and running and refilled the wood hopper. Just had some fresh baked bread and blueberry jam and now I'm trying to debate whether I should go out and attempt to move the snow that's fallen so far, or just wait until it's over at 3ish. Seems like waiting will probably be the best right now - it's really fluffy and really windy, so I'm sure if I move it it will just move back and I'll be wasting my time. Kinda wish ours would move to rain so it at least stays put once we move it, but our high today is 13 so looks like rain is not in our future.

A pot of chicken soup sounds good.

It is 6:30 here and have over night Caramel Rolls warming up in the Oven. They will be baked at 7. The sun is not up yet so it is about time to get the Chicken Chores done.

34 today with sunny skies. California is about to be declared a Disaster area due to it's third year in a row low rainfall.

its 700 here and i have not been to sleep.

I was wound up at midnight so I started packing shipping boxes for the Philippines, Because of the shear numbers of Filipinos sending stuff home, there are several companies that offer door to door at very cheap rates compared to any other international shipping. AN 18x18x24 box costs 50 bucks door to door in Manila - regardless of weight. It takes 4-6 weeks. its $70 to our place and takes 8 weeks.

I am shipping a couple of 110--220 power coverters, a few boxes of nail gun nails, a gallon of cold galvanizing compound, some 14" cut off wheels, brooder lamps and 10kg of vitamins and minerals a chinese company sent me as a sample and some sundry tools that are cheaper here and hard to find there. It should make for a 200lb box.

I have lunch with my folks who are over from Oz and visiting my sister so I better ger 2 or 3 hours sleep

Glad I'm not in the shipping business.

That'll give you a hernia.

Carmel buns sound delicious!

SCG- I would wait too until the winds subside. I need a detailed weather report to know how I will handle the stairs and drive and when they change it I get a wee bit grumpy.

We shoveled the tire tracks to get out for now. THis is where all the rain drained to so moving heavy wet snow is a PITA. Two hours of shoveling . . . . and now the temps are noticably colder and the wet slush has frozen and no longer slippery-- hurray!! The boys sucked down baked potatos and hot chocolate for breakfast. The solid crust is on top of the 5 inches of dry snow--we'll shovel that eventually as rain is coming later in the week. Gotta love New England.

Months ago I mentioned frozen fog and hoar frost. Here is an example of what happens when you get frozen fog with cold temperatures. It is supposed to get around 30 again today. I almost feel like I am with Oz
