How can I help to process one of my own without batting an eye (not really, but you get the idea) and then go all to pieces over a chick? I don't get it. We had to suspend the search for the night so I do hope she shows up tomorrow. We searched everywhere, evn walking through the little parch of woods between our house and the field behind us, and I walked up and down our street calling. Thinking maybe an owl or hawk might have gotten her, but I'm not giving up hope just yet. I wish it was spring so I'd have a hatch to distract me....I hate this constant wet, muddy cold.

Wow! My spelling really sucked, didn't it?

"parch of woods?" Can ya tell typing isn't my strong point? 'Specially when I'm trying to type fast.

One of my little Buffies is missing. They were all out having free tie while DH and DD were cutting wood and before coming back in he noticed she was not with the others. They are always together. We've searched all afternoon and I've called and called till I'm hoarse, but to no avail. I think a hawk might have grabbed her, but I saw no feathers.
I hope she shows up!

Hi! I am new, and this is the first post I have done....I have 6 ladies and two roosters(one is a yard pet). We are about to order up to 50 meat(I have ALMOST decided on the Freedom Ranger), to see how we like growing out birds. We have always had chickens of some sort, but I am wanting to get serious about it. As a mom of 7, yes, the chickens have taken time and resources my kids would have loved to use but isn't that the point? I involve them heavily, they all don't really like chickens, some more than others. But they all help out because they all eat eggs :) If they have qualms I make cookies, using eggs.....
And yes, I am getting old. My oldest daughter is pregnant with my second grandchild, and my littlest is 3 :)
Oh yes! I think I will also add ducks and guineas this year.....

Welcome to the old folks home--- have have 2 kids about 10, and they help with the chores. I hear too many horror stories about young people that don't know how to suck it up and work. Chickens seem to be the perfect fit for children.

My kids had leftover mashed potatos made into potato pancakes using eggs--" Mom? WHy are pancakes so yellow? Did you put eggs in them? " Hard to hide those orange egg yolks!! lol Lots of uses for eggs.
