The Old Folks Home

Wellllllllll, it's cold out.

It's so cold the old fellows (in their 80's) have piled up in front of the pellet stove in my feed mill eating the salted peanuts in-shell that the feed store keeps. They have a bunch of old beaten up chairs they keep just for this sort of assemblage. The old guys don't know what to make of me when I come in there. Unaccustomed to girls like me, I guess.

I hatched 15 or so babies yesterday, and stuffed them under my broodies. A bunch of Konzas and a bunch of Silkied Ameraucanas. A little bit of everything is going in next, so there will be all sorts of stuff in 3 weeks for me to sort out.

I've got heated buckets or dog bowls in all but 3 of my runs now, so it's easier to manage, but Pinwheel is doing the chores right now for the most part, so I can go to work- I'm sooooo glad to have her partnering with me on her lovely farm!!! She has power and water all over the place on the acreage, so it's a totally different game than before.

I lost my pied India Blue peacock today. He was still out at the other farm...he was Alison's, really, as I gave him to her. Unfortunately, a mountain lion has moved into the area and it picked off several of the turkeys before I was moved out. I left the peas and have recently gotten my Purple Blackshoulder out of there, but hadn't moved my hen because I wanted to get Alison't boy a friend first. Now the point is moot.

We didn't know it was a mountain lion. There had been bobcats and plenty of coyotes and raccoons, but several of her neighbors have seen it and they are known to be in this area. The state wildlife denies it publicly, but I know folks in the law enforcement industry and state wildlife, and they will admit it's something that isn't unlikely in that they have collected several from the highways and other situations. I'm sad and ******.

It's only about 10 miles away from my current farm, so I'm nervous, too- but will the sheep attract? Will the hot wire detract? I dunno.

Mountain lion?? WTH???!!?

Ok, Where is Larry Kansas ?

Mrs Oz was saying how cold it is in the Philippines this week. She had a sweater on when skyping today. I looked at a weather page. It was 59F. Thats like 30 below in Lawrence KS and 50 below where SCG hails from.

Poor thing was suffering.

Seriously

Reneee-- keep the fence hot!!! HOw about a LGD??

Oz-- it is all relative!! 22 felt like a heat wave today, only wet gloves instantly freezing to metal was the reminder that it was frigin COLD.

Welcome King Frodo, sorry no thrones here, just rocking chairs for all of us.

My mom used to make potato pancakes from scratch, I think she ate them with sour cream. I never cared for them, too oily. Maybe if buried under Nutella, I would reconsider. I think they have potato pancake mix In the Kosher section of grocery stores. The Matso Ball and soup mix turns out very well but, the soup needs CHICKEN.
