My sister-in-law had a house rabbit. Hunny Bunny was also housebroken. However, when she got mad at someone, she'd pee on the couch. We learned real quick to check for wetness before sitting on the couch. Never did figure out what she'd be miffed about though. We have the one reabbit that was bought as a sire for meat rabbits but that is as far as that project got. When winter set in , we moved the rabbit into the house, putting the cage in the brooder box. One day I let him out, and well . . . . he is right at home hopping around the house!! Totally house broken, to my udder amazement!! Never a pellet anywhere. I purposely got a white with red eyes so I wouldn't mind so much doing in an ugly rabbit, but I just can't do it. I'm such a whuuze.
Thanks insanity I appreciate you input. DH wants to raise meat rabbits and from what I have read that is the NZ and the Californians. We may do both. I have been showing DH pic's of hutches with small pens to let them run around in and get some exercise. I thought about putting them in the chicken run but DH said no they need their own space.I got a pair of French lops a few weeks ago and so far I would highly recommend them. Great personalities, VERY layed back attitudes. Not as high strung as the dwarf breeds I had in the past. We have had sub 0 every night for the last week and all they needed was a bit more bedding to snuggle in. The only down side is space, my buck is about 20 lb so standard caging doesn't work. Mine free roam the chicken coup or (like now) in bad weather they stay in a 10x10 dog kennel.
DId you see there is another person on the heritage thread with silver campines??? Started with a w, but not Wisher1000, lol. THis person rarely posts or is fairly new to the thread.

Based on this the rabbit will be staying in his cage. He is clearly ****** when I put him back into his cage and not allowed to hop around. I don't need pee on my couch.
Quote: WHen I was reading over the summer I did catch on that those rabbits bred for meat qualities and large litters, etc where not likely to be the show rabbits.
For now I'm sticking to chickens.
Quote: It's funny that people seem to assume that any time an animal eliminates anywhere other than where they are "supposed" to, that they are expressing anger. I think this rabbit was just marking territory. House rabbits, like house cats, sometimes feel a need to put their mark in some place other than the litter box. The scent marking they do by "chinning" is less obvious, and less obnoxious, but it's all a part of claiming a space as theirs.
