The Old Folks Home

I think you guys need "chicken cages," like shark cages but, on a smaller scale and instead of bars just 1/2" hardware cloth so you can eat in front of the flock and go "neener , neener,. neener'

You don't steal their food.

SCG maybe if you put the fox head by the chicken coop, it will warn the others AWAY. Unless of course they band together and decide to extract revenge.

Years ago I saw a coyote trotting down our street as confidently as any dog. I yelled "Go Away - Get outta here!!" as fiercely as I could. Didn't even turn his head. I think I need more fire power like an air horn or woofers and tweeters if they still have those things.

Can you use a crossbow or something so you won't wake up BF?

No crossbows here, although that's not a half bad idea. Haven't figured out what we're going to do with the skull yet, was planning on putting it above the coop door, but it came with the jaw detached and I'm not quite sure how to wire a jaw shut. I should talk to the dentist I know.

SCG - I know you shot a fox, but taxidermied it's head? Wha'? It didn't happen........... (no pic, remember?)

Kinda, not really. Took the body to a guy who does taxidermy and asked him to de-meat and bleach the skull. I just went up to BF's room to try and locate the skull, which is its last seen location as far as I'm concerned, and I cannot locate it. I can share a photo of Mr Dead Fox if you'd prefer!

I put the game cam out just a few minutes ago to hopefully catch this creature's pattern so I know when to be ready for him and/or her to arrive. It is, of course, snowing again, so I'll be able to see if there's fresh tracks tomorrow, too, so I can track where it's coming from and the best place to lay in wait.

I have actually considered such a thing, Diva. Cheaper chicken wire will deter poultry incursion and snack theft; I shan't be enjoying nummies if predators were about.

My contractor "suggested" I remember the nicely screened front porch he created as a Chicken Free Zone. He doesn't understand the desire to be surrounded by flock members happily scratching all around and close at hand whilst I'm enjoying a bagel.

I would put out a trap cage and call animal control to pick them up to get rid of the problems. Just a thought.

Did that..caught two so far. :) I am seeing footie prints in my front garden area. I really really dislike that! Cat urine, kills everything. Time to get my live trap out again. :/

They are mooches, for sure. They do have their moments, though. I have a WLH rooster (Diego) who will walk at my side like a dog. Today I was cleaning up after the big thunderstorm we had last night and he stayed next to me the whole time, talking to me in this cute burbling voice. Maddy and I are putting some eggs from Diego and Dora in the incubator. I was going to wait till spring to hatch, but dang it! I tried.

Little silkie and cochins. Here are a few of the 11 out of 14 that went into lock down. Tiny Tots.

Bundle of blues. I got mostly blues, the dark and the light blue, and, a few blacks. And, one little chipmunk looking one. They sure have a lot of nice feathering on the feet.
