The Old Folks Home

I don't think the hubby would go for that...Plus, I'm not big on animals in the house.  It's all I can do to  handle the dog in the house.

I knew we were kindred spirits, Fro, I am in the same boat.  I love the little dog, but I really wish (there I go again) that it lived outside!  I hate the hair that gets all over my clothes, especially the black polyester.  It gripes me that it jumps on the couch, bed, and sometimes the table  and don't even mention when there is an "accident!"  :he

That table looks great, KingFrodo! I don't think you need much of a reason beside that SHE HAS CHICKS! LOL!

Camping is in my near future too, Wisher! But I agree with the boys, cold nights are bad for camping! Unless you plan to do a lot of cuddling, lol!

You should have seen the  looks on their faces when I was telling them how to best keep warm, using combined body heat, by zipping the sleeping bags together.  LOL!  They didn't like the idea too much!  :lau

Lol! Well, why ever not? :)

It was really cold last night! Down to 32, and supposed to be colder tonight! Boo x2 on its going down to 69! :) Though I'm still enjoying the cool, not cold mornings. I don't enjoy camping in the horrible heat either. The roommates and my BF and I are coordinating a summer camping trip to a bay in Florida. We're going as early in the summer as possible to avoid the heat, but it won't be until June until we can go. The bay were going to stay in is shady and cool, so I think we'll be ok, and if it's too hot, I'll just jump in the water! I'm really excited, it's been too long since I've seen the beach! The best part? We can walk a mile across the peninsula and go play in the waves on the beach!

Sounds like a great trip.
Summer camping, putting the tent in all day shade is imperative.

The part I don't understand is that independence day and labor day in MO are usually ungodly hot and humid - and all the campgrounds are FULL!!! Worse yet, after months of people camping, cooking in the same spot and throwing their garbage in the trash cans, the flies are out of control.

Even in summer, an isolated camp site in the woods, there are much fewer flies.

I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to camping. We have a 35 foot travel trailer with a full size kitchen, a bathroom even with a tub. (I like to take baths at night) two slides, heat, ac, satellite tv,

Now THAT is my kind of camping!

A full kitchen, a bath tub, heat, TV?

I have that too - At home.

I'd call that stylin'. At least that eliminates the bug and sweat issue.

As the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

I like a bath at night too, so I'm always on a crystal clear mountain stream with some biodegradable soap and shampoo. Then put the jammies and slippers on for fireside time and into a nice clean sleeping bag.

I'm an expert at steak and lobster with baked potatoes and asparagus on a campfire.

My little 1 lb. white gas backpack stove even has an oven for baking pizza.

That sounds awesome ChickenCanoe! I love cooking outside! The food just always seems to taste better. I hate camping side by side with other people. I love having my own little spot off somewhere, whether I have to hike in or paddle in, which is something I've really wanted to do. Haven't yet packed up on a boat and gone off camping. My mom has a couple of kayaks too.....

It rains too much here in the winter and spring, so I only tent camp in the summer. I'm getting too old to try to get up from the ground and hate trying to get dressed while laying down. My wife prefers camping in our trailer...she likes the amenities! LOL

When hubby and I first married 18 years ago I wanted to camp old style like you guys....I grew up camping like that and loved it.

He was still active duty Marines and he said he camped enough outside and he wanted a camper. We just bought our second one last year and we love it! Now that he is disabled/retired from the Corps the sleeping on the ground wont work for him.

I love cooking outside over a campfire too. Yes, the food tastes so much better. I agree with you about not camping near other people.

I don't even like to hike with people. They're so noisy, they miss all the wildlife.

Maybe I'm just anti-social.

Or when they see some wildlife they have to announce it to the world, which scares off all other wildlife for miles.
