The Old Folks Home

Blah. Now Veera really has gone broody. She tried it about 3 weeks ago too, but lost interest in a few days, luckily. Now she seems more determined to sit in the nest, even though she has no eggs to sit. Hope she doesn't give the other girls any ideas.

Yogurt will not cure Cocci. It is a good thing to give them after treatment though.

Cocci is not a bacteria. If the load of cysts is large enough, it kills the chicks by ripping up the intestines and they bleed to death.
Never said it would cure cocci. It's a preventive. If you keep having repeated cases, get it treated and then get them started on yogurt and keep giving it to them. Sounds like your piece of earth got infected somehow and you're going to have to keep the yogurt coming. You can also add a "prebiotic" which is just a fancy word for food for the probiotics. Pectin is a good one and easy to come by. Granny Smith apples are loaded with it, its in that super tart green skin. I take an apple a week, send it for a spin in the blender, and put it into my birds' fermenting feed along with yogurt and daily raw garlic. It helps quite a lot.

I think she should drop and give us 20,000.

My husband says the dogs and chickens eat better than he does!

My hubby's 'donation' to the household chores is to do the cooking each evening. Having said that, I have just finished cooking up some pasta to go with the lettuce and corn the girls are getting for breakfast.

In this house, the only cooking I do is for the girls and the fun stuff like bread baking, pies, cakes etc :)

I remember when we first met and he asked me out on a date, I explained that my week days were busy with work and my weekends were taken up with gardening, cleaning etc. He responded along the lines that if I went out with him and it worked out well we would have "lots of time on the weekends to do stuff because he would help me with the chores"!

With vacuum in one hand and mop in the other, I often remind him of that statement .. his response "Hhhhm, no, doesn't sound like me"

Well, guess we are meeting with the big wigs on Fri. Found one of the best .. at least in the t.v. adds..for a lawyer. They won't charge us anything if nothing comes of it. Will find out how much they get if we win I guess..on Fri. That's if they decide to take the case. When we tried to talk to someone last time, they took it to the big wigs who decide if they will take the case. I would think that having our sister come close to death because of negligence is a big deal..especially where she is in-trusted in a facility like this. At least they are looking at it. The ASP will go in, but they just don't have enough legislation behind them to be able to do what really needs to be done in these situations. Think about it. Where will they put the mentally handicapped if they don't have these places? They are so full in the mental hospital that takes in the real hard to handle cases, at least they are here in our county. We want one of the boys out of this place our sister was in. He is beating the crap out of so many other residents. They can't handle this guy..a 4 yr. old in a 28 yr. old body. He beat our Lisa pretty good..didn't know that until we saw the bruises the night we went in to the hospital for her drowning. They call it near drowning because she is living. Fine line there. She drowned. Anyway this kid had fought with her just a few days before they went swimming. The crisis gal got some great photos. Couldn't believe our eyes. Pretty massive.

Penny Hen It's Mandy Patinkin- who isn't even recognizable (to me ) when he is playing Inigo.

I love Mandy Patinkin .. I personally think he is an actor who deserves way more credit than he gets!

It has been a good week for me .. not only did Blondie lay the tinniest cutest little first egg, my 10 month old Silkie, Tina, laid her first egg last night also. There was some drama as she appeared unwell leading up to it and because she had not been giving off 'first-egg' signals, I thought she was sick. I checked on her later and there was an egg under her. Who lays an egg at 7 o'clock at night?!. There was a bit of blood and of course, being the first time I have seen blood on an egg, I panicked! Anyways, thanks to one of the Aussie threads (your guys n' gals were sleeping!) I was reassured and today Tina is doing well.

All I need now is for my little Frizzle to lay her first egg and then Cilla, Blondie, Tina and LuLu can all go broody at the same time!

 Sorry, did not mean to offend you. I did get through your post eventually, just required a fresh cup of coffee :)  Your farm seems like a wonderful place, keep on posting the updates!

@subhanalah
 The net was pretty tangled, so sadly I think the bird hung around for a bit. Hope your chicken doesn't try the fence again, she probably scared you pretty badly when you found her. Poor chicken.
oh, yes...Afterwards, she was very shaken and needy. I brought her inside the air conditioning so she could calm down and get lots of cuddles and reassurance.
