Snow? Hmmm, got nothing to add in that department; last time I saw snow was 42 years ago! Now, if you want to talk about yucky humidity I’m your gal

The world is a wonderful place; while you are preparing for snow, we are wondering whether to put the portable swimming pool in the same spot as we did last summer.

+++’s for FF! Started my gals on FF about 6 months ago … they luv it and I luv it! Going through a lot less feed and while they were never unhealthy, they sure do have a beautiful shine now and poops are much easier to clean up!

I use the 3 day x 3 jar method because I only have 5 gals and the bucket method would be overkill … so easy!

pishaw! that ain't snow, THIS is my snow.

first, the pretty pictures.

Now, the "What are windows for? To see outside? Really?"

My poor chicken coop. And yes, it had chickens in it.

And, my little minions/voles dragging feed and water out to the livestock in a snow storm. They are walking on the "just plowed it clean yesterday" driveway.

The view from my front door to the parking area.

The view towards my front door, in an average snowfall winter.

Sorry, I know they are not all pretty pictures for you; I probably cannot even begin to know what you go through and the hassles with the snow .. bit it sure looks purdy to me!

Typical .. at the start of the week, work is so frantic I end up sitting cross legged in the chair because I do not have time for a break and now, bored! lol It would be nice if the workload would even out a tad :)

Anyways, because I am bored .. lurking around the place, checking out the Home Page etc and look what I see; someone has been busy

I know I'm late to this party, but I thought I'd chime in. Very cold and snowy here. The first few snow days the chickens act like they are going to be murdered by the snow. Then after they realize it's harmless and it's here to stay, they deal with it. I do shovel a path for them (and for myself). After a fresh snow to entice them to come out (if they need it) I'll throw some shavings down or some hay after I shovel. And my chickens do eat pine needles. We have some large old pine trees near the run that lose branches constantly in the winter. My chickens strip them bare. They do it summer or winter.
 No way you got that much snow!! I had to have my hubby take a look. I love having the longer 4 seasons. Man, did you ever have summer?
That's about a weeks worth. Although here in the South we seldom get more than 3 feet on the ground. Alaskan, nice views.

Dominant genes. I don't think of them as the only thing that gets passed on, rather, I think of them as something that trumps everything else. I wonder though. Remember the rhode island red bantams that got hatched out last October (I think it was). I think there were 6 or 7 of them. The daddy was a rose comb and the mama a single comb. I expected the rose comb to trump the single comb and at least 90% of the offspring would have rose combs. Sounds dominant, right? I suppose if we had hatched 100 chicks out of that cross, there may have been 90 with rose combs but as it was, with 6 chicks, one had a rose comb.

So... I'm as lost as ever on this dominant gene thing.

And so ends the tale of Topi. He was pretty scrawny under all that feathering.

We'll see how long it takes for Eemeli to start crowing now that he's the only roo left. The rest of the flock are pretty quiet, but Wilma and Töyhtis were happily laying eggs while we dealt with Topi.
