 There is apparently a new "meme" going on with road kill animals. People are actually purchasing "Get Well" balloons and attaching them to the bodies. I think it is a bit sick and terribly funny.

Am I a sick person for thinking this is incredibly amusing?

Probably not. I saw that and decided I need to get a Get Well balloon or two to carry in the car.

You should talk to my brother the Emergency Room RN and Ambulance EMT-4 (paramedic) about the idiot who called an ambulance for a raccoon he hit. So they go racing over the coast range at high speed on slick, narrow, winding roads and find this idiot tourist in a Cadillac giving a raccoon mouth to mouth and CPR. He was not amused when the state patrol dragged him off to the ambulance to be hauled in to start the rabies series.

I have to agree.
Releasing wolves in Yellowstone was extremely controversial.

Some even oppose releasing prey animals like elk and bison.
The bison in Yellowstone get harassed by ranchers every time they leave the park.
People opposed the restoration of Elk here in in MO at Peck Ranch wildlife area.

But would our quality of life be better if they were all extinct?

Coyotes and raccoons are invasive species that profited from the eradication of the top predators.
Coyotes once were only in the southwest and raccoons were once only in the southeast. Both cover the continent now.

The bison are harassed every time they leave the park because they carry brucellosis AKA abortion fever AKA undulant fever AKA Bangs disease.

There are currently testing and immunization programs in place.

Many animals can become infected with brucellosis; it can spread very rapidly. It is a very serious disease in people, as well as in livestock.

I'd harass the Yellowstone bison if they showed up near me; I don't need a case of undulant fever.

Hey, I now live in the Bay Area. Where people hand feed the freaking raccoons. And go out of their way to get coy dogs and wolf dogs because they want a touch of the wild in their lives. And then are unhappy when they require stitches and maybe the rabies series.

You can't fix stupid.

Those balloons sound like a funny idea. Or maybe one of those teddy bears. I do have to admit though, that I once called 112 (our version of 911) about a dying cat in the road. People were swerving around it like crazy when they noticed it, and I didn't feel like stopping at the spot since there was no way of doing that safely.

The riots are reminding me of volcanos. Pressure builds for years and decades and like a smoldering powder keg it finally explodes. Nothing even remotely like this has ever happened here.

Actually, back in 1968 there were some incredible riots in St. Louis and a lot of other cities around the country. In fact there were riots all over the country in different cities from the mid-1960s into maybe the early 1970s. They even managed to have one in Portland, OR.

Of course now, with all of the Easterners and Californians in Oregon and Washington, riots and vandalism are much more common in Portland and Seattle. For decades there were protests with very few riots, and now it seems that the protests are thinly veiled excuses to liberate flat screen TVs and designer clothing.

The problem in Ferguson is that the protest is now being overshadowed by those who want to vandalize and possibly loot, and the focus has moved from the original problem - a militarized police force - to vandalism and destruction by individuals who could probably care less about the Brown family and their loss.

If anyone has $0.15 cents to spare, I highly recommend buying the book Extraordinary Chickens. It doesn't have a ton of information about raising them but has a lot of amazing pictures.
