I think it says a lot about how the main thing women in television are judged by is their looks.

When has anyone ever said "that ole Walter Cronkite is not much to look at; I couldn't really say about his journalism"?

I still miss fireflys. Lived in Fl. VA and NC. Loveed seeing them. Now have a son in GA that finally got to see what I was talking about throughout the years when fun bugs were brought up.

I am not sure if this is agression and if its directed at me so I will presume both and aplolgise if you are offended by me. A minister gets shot by a rubber bullet. Not good PR for the police. Your comment "[COLOR=333333]I would think that would be incentive to stay home.". came across (to me atleast) as a little callous when a minister was probably not being unruly and was more than likely trying to discourage violence. She probably did not deserve a rubber bullet and is no doubt incentivised to stay home. Colatteral damage in not acceptable in civil unrest.[/COLOR] [COLOR=333333]I know what a tough job cops have. Cops need the tools to protect in all circumstances.[/COLOR] [COLOR=333333]I also know that the cops should not be routinely pointing military grade weapons at civilians. The weapons need to be pointed to the ground unless you are ready to pull the trigger. Many war vets have spoken out against the cops handling of crowd control in MO. [/COLOR]

I'm pretty sure that's what terrorists say to victims of terrorist actions.

If the store owner (who was the victim of browns robbery), would have shot brown during the robbery; would we even be talking about this? Idk all the facts but i did see the video of the robbery.

At one point, a local newspaper did a article about what you could buy with that weeks Lotto prize, I think it was 3.2 million euros. One of the things mentioned were 300000 bottles of Koskenkorva, but the most interesting to me was one kilometer of motorway. Yup, sure would be expensive building up that road to our cottage with own money. Personally, I think taxes in Finland are still too low, at a net taxation of about 43% (compared to around 26% in the US).

if Americans were taxed that much, we wouldn't be able to live. Our wages v. cost of living are also drastically different from my understanding.

As to politics and journalism....I think it is ridiculous to expect anyone to be unbiased. We are all opinionated.

If you want a more balanced understanding of the news, then read everything twice, once from a far out left, and once from a far out right.

That is how I teach history.....we read a modern textbook that explains how horrid white men are, but also goes over things from a more whole world perspective, and then we read an old history textbook, where there is lots of patriotism, it is pro-America and pro-European white males. It is interesting, entertaining, and highly informative.

In my defense, most of these shows don't air here

And I'd say Walter Cronkite was considered handsome when he was first hired, just as I don't think Barbara Walters broke any mirrors in her youth.

And I don't think you have to be beautiful to work as a newscaster, you need to be believable. It might not be true for all networks, but I don't know how credible I would think the news would be read by a 21 year old wearing a t-shirt sporting dreadlocks. Television gives you both the voice and face, so it's understandable that looks play a part.

Yeah, the teasers are annoying.

That wouldn't be a very good way to do it either. It would mean that the candidate for the Republican party would get just as much air as John Smith of the White Pride and Quilting party. Lobbying should me made illegal in my opinion though, and anonymous donations as well, if those still exist.

Some people say that politicians should have lower salaries, but in my opinion that would lead to lesser minds making decisions. If you're smart enough to make millions in the private sector, what incentive do you have to work in politics if it doesn't pay anything?

I also think that the US could benefit from having more than two real political parties. Important smaller issues often get lost when you have to limit your issues to something everyone in a large party can agree upon.

it was never meant to be a two party system for exactly this reason.

I always thought that, but never verbalized it.
