The Old Folks Home

Deb, how fun! I love horses. I used to ride back in the good ol younger days. That's a great looking horse. And, a great looking piece of property!

thanks Katee is my baby girl. Shes twenty now and queen of the High Desert. I have eighteen acres of Chaparal and rocks. No farmland or even soil. Though the property is covered in medicinals... from Yucca to Mormon tea. Yerba Santa grows all over.

For those who dont know me my place is 2 miles from the Mexican Border and 1.5 miles from paved road. I have a little house and at one time I had sixty chickens and guineas combined as well as two Nigerian Dwarf goats and one Pygmy. I lost all the chickens to coyotes last year.... it was a cascade failure on my part. And this summer I lost my goats to mountain lions.

to the side of my front gate

inside the gate my courtyard... Not so neat now.

Wow, I've always wanted to live out where I could have animals..back in the day..horses..but, you have critters around you! Big time. Big ones! Sorry about the loss of them. I can just see chickens running around on this property, too bad they would have to be caged to keep them safe when there is so much land to roam on.
And, once I saw .. another photo of a horse, besides your avatar, I went to check out your photos..is that the same horse by chance..the one that looks younger, just years ago..so beautiful. If you don't mind, I will post which one I'm asking about. Beautiful big black.

Nice pad. I like to plant all my medicinals over on my neighbors property.

When I moved here there was a green house on the south side of the house. the windows were painted white yet it got 140 degrees in there in the summer.... Blasting heat poured into the house when you opened the door. There were misting systems and humidity sensors and air conditioners to mitigate the heat.... I suspect recreational horticulture was being grown there.

Everyone on the mountain said the guy was into Tomatoes and Orchids.....

The roof was falling in so I had it rebuilt and turned into a real roof. The glass I took out and left a twelve foot opening for some barn doors. I call it my green house room. Right now I have plans for doing aquaponics there along with some Tilapia.

LOCKDOWN!

Had a butterfingers moment with one of the Welsummers during lockdown setup. No cracked shell, but the egg took a pretty good rap. Darn! I'm hoping for at least a pair of pullets per breed, but my egg loss rate has been stupendous this hatch. Hope they all hatch and no bad damage done. We'll know at the end of this weekend.

Good luck, Little Eggies. You're on the last leg of your journey to chickdom. Fare well! (NOT Farewell)

I have had horses now 47 years. Katee is my last unless I can get back into shape enough to work with her again. All those photos of a big black horse are of Katee. I got her as a six year old pasture ornament. Unbroken for driving but she had 30 days of western training. I dont know how many miles i walked Ground training her with long lines. My original goal was to do Combined driving with her... Career took a flip health followed.... life goes on.

Of all the predators that can prey on your livestock.... the ones I fear most are feral dogs.
