We got 8 processed, quartered and in the fridge to rest. They were healthy looking inside and out.

I think that's an awesome job. I'd be very proud to do 8 in a day; 1-3 is my speed as the one and only doing the work.

First eggs!

One of the younger birds (New Hampshire, born ~May 27th), in the adjacent pen, was doing the egg song the past couple of days, but still too young to lay, so thought nothing of it. So just a bit ago she started again, so I decided I better check in the nest boxes where the 2 older girls (Delawares from @maggiemo born late March?) are and son of a gun, there they were! I have my first 2 eggs They're a little smaller than a store bought large, but I guess that's normal and they'll get bigger over time.

I'm thinking a couple more, then scrambled w/bacon and toast

Maybe dinner later this week!

This is great! It never gets old either, when a new hen gives that first egg. My flock is small enough I know when there is a new one in the nest, and I know who laid it. I am always willing to share my excitement with my DH. He has gotten so he congratulates me every time.

I watched, CC, I smiled all the way though.

Well, guys, I finally finished worming all the chickens, official count - 73 fully feathered and 15 chicks - 88 total!

I kept them shut in until each was caught, dosed, and then turned out to free range. They were not happy. Much flapping, squawking, struggling and fighting was had by all. I even had a couple bite me, not peck, but BITE! Grab a pinch of arm or finger and clamp down and twist! The buggers. Of course, I can't say that I wouldn't do the same in their situation.

I will follow up and do it all again in about 10 days (more likely, two weekends from now.) I will have to do the second one by myself, I have used up my quota of chicken help from the guys. DH realized after we came inside that he had lost his glasses and we had to go out to find them after dark. We found them on the floor of the coop. Yep, stepped on, scratched, and broken, but only the frame. I will have to find a way to make that up to him.........

They are just finishing up their molt and the egg count is still low, I will not eat many eggs in the next month, but should be back in business for Thanksgiving.

Still on my to-do list is cleaning one coop (12x16) and the chicks' quarters (8x8.) My coops and the chicken part of the property look as bad as it ever has due to the heat and my not being able to get out there. As soon as it cools off some, I will spruce it up a bit.

So sorry to hear this. Earlier this year I lost a good friend to suicide. She got me in to chicken keeping and had the biggest heart I've ever seen. She'd give you the shirt right off her back if she thought you needed it.

I wish we as a society talked more about and accepted mental illness as something legitimate and serious.

CC I'm so sorry to hear this and I apologize for not commenting sooner. I saw the first line, then must have gotten distracted and skipped the rest. I only realized what you said when SCG commented on it.

Prayers for you and your Coop Fairy Friend. I hope she pulls through and that you will one day tell us why you call her your Coop Fairy.

I rehomed all my Empordanesa to a local that way I can get more once I have more space.
now I can focus more on my crele and black Penedesenca. Plus my trio of partridge
