Not everyone leaves a note. It is impossible for the average person to understand the anguish that compels someone to take their own life. Some say suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. But it isn't a temporary problem to them- it may have been percolating since their childhood when family/ friends dismissed them as sullen, or moody or lazy. I hope your friend is still with us.

I watched, CC, I smiled all the way though.

Well, guys, I finally finished worming all the chickens, official count - 73 fully feathered and 15 chicks - 88 total!

I kept them shut in until each was caught, dosed, and then turned out to free range. They were not happy. Much flapping, squawking, struggling and fighting was had by all. I even had a couple bite me, not peck, but BITE! Grab a pinch of arm or finger and clamp down and twist! The buggers. Of course, I can't say that I wouldn't do the same in their situation.

I will follow up and do it all again in about 10 days (more likely, two weekends from now.) I will have to do the second one by myself, I have used up my quota of chicken help from the guys. DH realized after we came inside that he had lost his glasses and we had to go out to find them after dark. We found them on the floor of the coop. Yep, stepped on, scratched, and broken, but only the frame. I will have to find a way to make that up to him.........

They are just finishing up their molt and the egg count is still low, I will not eat many eggs in the next month, but should be back in business for Thanksgiving.

Still on my to-do list is cleaning one coop (12x16) and the chicks' quarters (8x8.) My coops and the chicken part of the property look as bad as it ever has due to the heat and my not being able to get out there. As soon as it cools off some, I will spruce it up a bit.

Last night we were putting our chickens and ducks into the coop and my husband fell over a pile of straw and stuff I had raked up 2 days ago. He knew it was there and he had his flashlight. I was in the coop, don't remember what I was doing but I did gather eggs while I was in there. He says he yelled for me and he says he was cussing real loud but I couldn't hear him. He's ok, got some scratches on his face above his left eye and really broke his glasses. Not just the right ear piece but the right lens also. He has another pair so he won't have to wait to get more but I can't figure out how he "fell flat on his face." He says he landed on his face but his nose isn't scraped up, just the scratches above his eye and his broken glasses. He just laid there until I came out of the coop and saw him. I think he was mad because he thought I should be able to hear him from in the coop and that I was ignoring him. I couldn't hear him and I wasn't ignoring him.

Before you start wondering why I left the pile of straw there, the chickens like to go through it so when they have it all spread out, I rake it up again. It's kind of like a game and they just love to go through the stuff that they have been through dozens of times. I suspect my husband was shooing one of the stubborn ones into the run and just moved too fast, not remembering the pile was there.

I don't know that I can make that up to him. The birds seem to obey him better than me when we are getting them into the run. Oh, we get them into the run, close the gate and then run them up the ramp into the coop. Close the chicken door and block it so no critter can get into the coop very easily. The human door is on the opposite side of the coop and does not lead into the run.
