I almost exclusively use screws for construction but I was schooled by a roofer buddy that nails are always stronger. If strength is the most important thing, like when you are hanging from a tether way up in the air and your life depends on it, use nails. I was hanging from a rope installing solar panels on a steep roof and I was glad I had opted for nails.

We've only been making screws for about 100 years or so. We've been making nails for thousands of years so we have that technology down.

I liked them because I thought they were the shortest of the draft horses so I figured pound for pound they would pull better. We had plenty of work for them but my dad opted for a Ford 2000 tractor and tractor type implements. However, we did find lots of horse drawn implements at sales that we repurposed to use with the tractor.

A roofer friend showed me how to drive nails without doing my fingers in, but I still prefer to use deck screws - even though I have stabbed myself with a screwdriver more times than I care to admit. A cordless drill is great, though I've managed to hurt myself with one of those. too. (Reckon it's the paws?)


Oh, and BTW, a hammer works better for driving nails than a beer does.

My son helped me build one of the outbuildings from one of those Lowe's kits. Very cheap wood and nails. I ended up buying a bunch of wood that wasn't warped and after both he and I bent about every other nail (and I know how to nail) because they were very soft, most likely Chinese, I told him to stop hammering. I went and rented a pneumatic nailer with a gas cartridge. The rest of the assembly went like a dream.

Nails are good for opening beers.
