The Old Folks Home

The adventure has begun. We drove down to the canyon area yesterday picking up SCG on our way. DH only "allowed" me out of the car once to take pictures yesterday because he was a man on a mission and even though we had an hour to wait once we got to the airport he wasn't going to let me dawdle.

Here are a couple I got yesterday. Not of the canyon yet, we didn't get all the way up there since by the time we got to the hotel and checked in, it was getting dark and we needed to eat dinner.

Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, can I order a calendar? Great pictures

Light Emitting Diodes.... they are teeny and produce alot of light very cheaply... But they run off Direct Current. The first ones I saw commercially were in those really bright flashlights.

In order to run off of Alternating Current they have to have a converter.... to fool the light that its really DC... That wastes a little bit of energy. any time you convert you do. But the trade off is good with new technology.

Oh and they handle dimming quite nicely....

Good to know. Thanks.

yeppers.... when our eldest was little, we lost him twice. After the second time, we put hooks and eyes on the top of the exterior doors. Silly tyke could open the rest of the locks.

Had some neighbors with the same problem with their eldest. They were lucky though. Their son would wander around and then come HOME. Once, one of the other neighbors tried to teach the kid a lesson, so he would stop wandering. The guy hid behind the bushes, and wShen the kid was walking past, he jumped out and yelled boo. Scared the kid silly, but he STILL kept walking off.

Dunno...none of the rest of my kids did that.

For both my eldest, and the neighbor's eldest, the kids were 2 to 3.
I used to do that. Drove my mom crazy. At four she found me 4 blocks away at a birthday party of people I didn't know. And once I decided to run away. At 5 I packed my tiny suitcase and walked 6 blocks to a bus stop to go to my Grandmothers. Crossing a 6 lane junction of rail road tracks. She called Daddy to come home and deal with THAT. She did catch up with me before getting on the bus that would have taken me downtown. The wrong way. I don't think I ever pulled that stunt again after Daddy finished with me.

Nice article. I was wondering about lactobacillus for the birds, because I always have some in the fridge... Guess you could pop open a capsule and sprinkle it on their feed.
Fermenting feed makes lactobacillus.

You can also make it directly:

To me it would make more sense to make this instead of fermenting feed. There is too much of the year at my place when you just cannot do fermented feed.

I personally can't do all of that. So I spent the $30 for a quart of EM-1. Essentially the same thing. It makes hundreds of gallons of it for the feed. @pdirt also uses it for a drink for health. Maybe he will chime in about it. To make a 5 gallon bucket of feed I use 1/2 cup AEM and 1/3 cup molasses. Grain or feed and water. Let it sit for 3-4 days the first time and it's ready. After that I let it get down to a couple of inches from the bottom and do it again. Ready overnight. I also use 1/2 c of AEM to one gallon of water and spray down the coop. Fabulous.
