Yeah, I'm feeding 27% mash to them right now, and grain mix with some peas and beans added as free feed to balance it out a bit. And then they free range. It will be interesting to see what kind of plumage they develop after this. Seems like a weird time to molt to me though, I would have expected them to do it a bit earlier, we're starting to get pretty cold weather during the nights already.

Here Nutrina sells a feed called feather fixer. It has chelated minerals and a bit more protein. I have been using it for a week and hope to start getting them laying better soon.
Three eggs yesterday...out of 30 plus hens.![]()
Quote: That's about 3 more than we got today. Viiru took a pause, but I suppose that's okay, she's been laying 12 days straight.
The better half is in charge of feed supplements, right now they're getting some chia seeds, a yeast product, crushed linseed and powdered garlic added to the feed concentrate, and then the hippie chicken feed grainmix, plus some oatgrains as treats. Oh, and leftovers. I'm hoping this creates sort of a balanced diet. It's a bit of a "everything but the kitchen sink" approach.
We feed the dogs a barf diet, and we've been giving the chickens some of their meat every once in a while as well.Mine always moult late in my opinion, half naked birds when it gets cold... Silly. I read 30% protein for the moult. Some people give them tuna. Lol.
Granulated Sea Kelp will help too. That's about 3 more than we got today. Viiru took a pause, but I suppose that's okay, she's been laying 12 days straight.

I give them a mixture of calf manna, Bird seed with BOSS and millet and cat food instead of scratch each evening.I feed mine the feather fixer and just little extra calf manna to up the protein and it moves them right along.
They are all laying again tho 2 of them still look a little "raggy"
