The Old Folks Home

Ron, both girls are only 10 months old, so it's not a age thing. But maybe it is Veera's egg then, which would be good since that would mean we're back to 5 layers. It will be interesting to see how it looks inside, this is our first genuine wind egg. All of the girls have started with something around 30 grams or larger.

Sometimes an egg will form around a bit of tissue or even a blood clot and the hen's body treats it like a yolk. It gets albumin, a membrane, and a shell. This can happen to any hen, at any age. So it could have been any of them. I get these about once every three or four months from my mixed flock of 20+ hens.

I wouldn't want to open a tiny egg and find a blood clot inside - there goes breakfast

I'm not that squeamish. Curiosity tends to win over here. I have some lovely eggtopsy pictures for you Diva, if you're interested

Bama! I see you lurking! Hopefully they'll let you out of jail soon!

Yes, open the egg!

I found an egg like that in the summer this year. It looked like a little Robin's egg.
