Thought about painting the trim first before attaching but having quandaries about what color I'm going to do it...have to see what the shingle staining looks like before deciding on white or cedar color. Shingles are actually being cut in stacks, but it's the little custom ones that are so time-consuming (measure twice, cut once, swear).

I get what you're saying, I think, about the paneling... I don't think I have the right saw equipment for that, though. Oh, well... it has been a learning experience.

I'll bump to somebody else with more knowledge about American window mechanics. I just got the pre-fab shed windows for the coop, so simple spring and slide mechanism. I do like the fact they've got bug screens on them, although flies will be able to enter via the chicken door.

By the way, does anyone know why so many windows in the states are that slide open model that you can only open half the window with? I've always wondered about that. And also, why do most doors open inwards in the States?

Can't say about the windows. I've only lived in one house with windows that only opened at the bottom; I figured it was a cheap design, so less spent on hardware, etc.

Well, by law, doors at stores must open outward so people can't get trapped behind them in the event of a fire, but a lot of homes have "storm doors" - a second door on the outside, usually largely glass. If both doors opened outward, the inner door would hit it.

I am a fan of many things but usually genra: Country, Rock and roll, Rockabilly, Bluegrass, Zidago, Heavy metal, Celtic, Aboriginal, Native American drum music.... what ever it is I love a strong beat because it makes me want to move my feet.

I used to be a Clogger so spent alot of time dancing to fast country or Bluegrass... I could even clog to some rock and roll.

Favorite dance in Country a local step called the Bus Stop. which is a variation on the Shottish where you dance with your partner like you are spooning....


The guy I used to dance with was a 300 lb Air craft controller.... He taught me how to be a real dance partner.... IN other words to follow a leader. I dont even remember his name because we gals had to take a number in order to get to dance with him.

I would love to hang out with willie and snoop..jimmy buffet acts like a regular person. I had no idea who he was for about an hour. Then someone came and asked for his autograph.

Been back out working on the coop. Sad to discover that nobody in the Albuquerque area carries wood siding shingles, so having to make my own. The downside to having so many windows and coop openings is the odd-sized shingles that get wedged between sills and the corner aspects of windows. Needless to say, this has been a learning experience and taking far longer than I imagined....hope I get my chicks out of the back bedroom before they lay.

Windows open from the outside and are predator proofed.

Your coop is beyond beautiful - guess you jest build like a girl! It's not a coop it's a HOME. Please require that your chickens are housetrained before they can enter. I'll have fits if they poopy up the place.

When i was younger i worked for a landscaping company. I was using a string trimmer along a fence and hank williams jr pulled up beside me and handed me the best cold beer ive ever had. I was so nervous. I say hi how are u mr. Williams. He said "fine how bout u". For some strange reason i said "how are u doing" again. He chuckled and said "still fine".

@Peep_Show Looking good. Next time, you might want to do the paneling first and then just cut out openings for windows and whatnots. Also, making a spacer to cut the shingles against makes it quicker as you don't need to measure them individually. And if you're going to paint the window trim a different color than the shingles, take the trim off and paint it before attaching it. Saves you a heck of a lot of patience consuming work.

Or why the windows open up and down on the east coast and from side to side on the west coast.

The doors I know.. Inwards to most exterior doors is a building code deal. Doors that go out from a patio room open outwards.... or a fire door towards the garage.

I can imagine if snow built up against a door over night it would be difficult to push it open if it opened out....

Most of the codes are written for fire codes.... But I know the sliding windows are pretty standard throughout the US.
