CC, I worked as a security guard at one point, so I got pretty intimate with quite a lot of different locks and keys. I might be a bit partial, but the Finnish/Swedish made Abloy/Assa locks and keys were my favorites, because of the usability. Most US locks imported here are the kind with a ridiculously small flat key, they require the tumblers to be just right to be inserted into the lock, and are usually a bit tricky to open. Plus you usually need a key to lock the doors, I don't like that either. But it might be that Finnish locksmiths are just not familiar with installing them, or the if the people who buy them install them themselves, even less so. Installing the Finnish locks wrongly makes them a pain to use as well.

One thing not everyone thinks about, is that having a door which requires a key to open the lock also from the inside is a good idea, because even if it's easy to enter the house, getting your loot out is a bit difficult if you have to lift it through a window, especially if you're stealing a TV or something similar. Jewelry and other small valuables are still at risk though. Same with having a locked gate at your fence, if you can't get a car close to the house you have to carry everything a long way.
