The Old Folks Home

I agree, V, it drives me nuts! I wish (there I go again) that we would go to the "one man, one vote" system. We have the technology to do it now, the electoral college is no longer necessary. The problem is, it would cut out the political clout of certain areas and they would be vehemently opposed.

Hey, all of you yanks, don't forget to vote today. And this is not an invitation to start discussing politics, just a reminder to all of you, regardless of which party you stand behind. (I'm a big fan of the idea of democracy).

Ok you have a different kind of government?.... Not talking politics just curious....

Our president is elected via direct vote nowadays, but the parliament is elected in an interesting way. Each region in Finland gets a set amount of representatives. Within those regions, you vote directly for a person, but the votes are used to decide which party gets what amounts of seats, and then the seats themselves are assigned within the party according to how many votes the representative has gotten compared to the other candidates withing the party. That way, a party might have one super popular candidate who gets almost all of the party's votes, but those votes will also benefit the rest of the candidates, even if individual candidates from different parties might have gotten more votes.

Ah you answered the question I asked before I read all the posts.....
