The Old Folks Home

Sorry it took me a couple of days but here are a few from my last hike a couple of weeks ago. I headed into the mountains near home for probably the last time this year. They are predicting snow tomorrow through Saturday so I am guessing the access roads to the trail heads will be closed for the season if they aren't already.

Today it is not supposed to get over 40 degrees. I think the real cold is finally here for the season. Thank goodness SCG got me into sewing. I have a ton of projects going and planned. Yesterday I made the trip to JoAnn. They were having a big sale and were offering 20% off for Veterans. I think it is funny that the first time I "used" my veteran status was to get money off fabric.

I can't share these on FB because they are going to be gifts for relatives (well one for SCG but I already showed it to her). I made these yesterday. Had fun doing it too. The owl is for the grandbaby. DD has a woodland theme to her nursery. She went in for an ultrasound on Monday and was supposed to get a definite boy/girl status. Actually she was supposed to get it last month but the baby was going full on Cirque du Soleil and wouldn't hold still long enough. Monday the baby decided to keep it's legs crossed, wave and give thumbs up but not show the important "bits". She has now been told boy one time and girl one time by the technicians so the jury is still out. I find it amusing the baby is reluctant to reveal which sex it is. My daughter does not find this amusing.

These are pin cushions

I like the owl. Owl things are nice to make, I made my goddaughter a birthday card that was owl themed one year, I cut up bit of felt and glued them to each other, it turned out pretty cool.

The pincushions are a great example on how to make a fabric that might not be one's favorite print into a really cool end result, they look almost like real flowers. (Now I'm hoping you haven't decorated your whole home with the same fabric and I've just insulted you).

The pincushions are actually a quilting pattern - I believe it's called "Cathedral Windows." My grandmother did a whole quilt with that technique. It's a really neat 3-D effect.

Nicely done, dquard!

vehve no offense taken. I bought the bright sunny zigzag fabric for this especially. I would not decorate my house with it.
