Oz, good luck with TSA... I foresee comic conversations.

hennible, I didn't know you were called Sam. I bet no one outside of BYC calls Mark Oz... (I hope I remembered that right)

I have had some interesting conversations with TSA at LAX. I have done around 40 international departures in the last 5 years with increasing frequency. I know by sight a good deal of them.

My license plate when I first came to USA was OZEXPAT but I am known by many names. At work I ask people to start calling me George after 12 midday because I get so sick of people calling my name.

My current license plate is DAKOGID - it means very big in the Hiligaynon language of the Philippines

As much as I rave about all the nice things and amenities about my home town and region, it's incumbent on myself to report the bad stuff too.

It has just been reported that St. Louis is #3 on the list of most dangerous cities in the US after New Orleans and Detroit. The report states

3. St. Louis

Population: 320,454
Violent crime rate: 1,857 per 100,000 residents
Lying directly in the path of major drug-trafficking routes, St. Louis has been plagued by murders and other violent crimes for years. The crime rate fell 4% last year -- and it's down 50% from the crack epidemic days of the early 1990s -- but St. Louis still ranked fourth in the nation for murders.

We're followed by Oakland, Memphis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Stockton, Cleveland and Buffalo.

Actually I love both New Orleans and - at least 10 years ago I liked Detroit.

San Pedro Sulo, Honduras is the most violent in the world. I was going to go there for Spanish language a few years ago because it was the cheapest - for good reason apparently.

Brazil, Columbia, Honduras, Mexico and Venezuela were the most violent countries. Brazil had 15 cities rank in the top 50, the most of any country.

I have to treat these lists with a grain of salt. In this report, cities in the Middle East were excluded. The report that doesn't count the Middle East, makes St. Louis the 40th most violent in the world. That said, I feel comfortable walking anywhere in town. I am prudent though and wisely avoid the worst areas unless impossible.

Area law enforcement has just spent $170,000 for more tear gas and other crowd control materials.

Oz, ever get Pinoy immigrants laughing at you in the States?
at me or my car?

my email is also dakogid@...............

I do get laughs from both. I will get the odd honk on the freeway with a thumbs up. Its also good to be able to laugh along with them. I have developed a good relationship with the PAL ticket office guys in bacolod because of my email.
