Mine too. My favorite white landscape is the Gulf Coast beaches.

I have the worse sleep pattern in the history of sleep patterns......I want to hatch some eggs I been looking at hatchling pictures........ I dunno there are a couple incubators in craiglist but I am worried they wont be any good..and or maybe I should just make an incubator............ I made one for the quail eggs back in maryland at our other house used a lunchbox cooler n stuff.... I dunno aside from just simply wanting to go thru the whole hatching egg and chick process.......I've been thinking it could come in handy for say a broody not sitting long enough or whatever..........


also arent the appleseeds carry more arsenic depending onw hent hey are picked ?

I read and article that said that apple seeds do not have arsenic but a pre cursor to cyanide. The seeds need to be ground up or chewed to release it and it is in very small amounts in the seeds. The flesh of the apple has some too. It is potentially dangerous in peach and cherry pits but no one eats them.

I have an idea that it was a north and south thing. My mother was from Minnesota and my Dads family was from Alabama. They could not cook together. When my dad was home at supper time he cooked and when mom was home she cooked. Dad cooked the holiday meals. I can recall mom getting mad and my father because we liked his fried chicken better than hers and we would not eat hers. When she asked him what he did different than her he fessed up and told her he was getting rabbit from the neighbor, the bunnies we played with after school! Needless to say we quit eating dads chicken.

But it really was better than the real chicken! I would like some these days!

Mmm, that would be delicious. I wonder if KFB would be a good business venture...

I need to make fried chicken again, I'll have to pester one of you guys for a real Southern recipe at some point. Although, we don't have Crisco here...

Do you have Lard? We are learning that Lard is not as bad for us as we though but crisco is very bad for us.
 
That's a bit difficult to get a hold of too. Basically we've got butter, margarine, coconut fat, or olive, rape seed or sunflower oil. Peanut oils etc. are pretty expensive, and lard or similar stuff isn't really available. Maybe beef fat, that might be available somewhere.

This is where its handy to get to know your local butchers. The probably toss out bins full of animal fats trimmed from carcasses every day.

Beef tallow and pork lard are very easy to make - just put it in a crock pot on low for a few hours and strain.

The fat over the kidneys is called leaf lard. It is the best fat for making pie crusts!

It is very easy to make. The bits of meat left after rendering are called cracklings and they are very tasty too!
 
Oh Ron, does that means I can stop hiding my lard in the back of the fridge????

The sprout talk reminds me I need to start my sprouts growing or my girls won't get their Thanksgiving treats! I also had a hard time finding Kale in the grocery store yesterday, what's with that? I can also find bundles of fresh Kale. It's a very inexpensive source of fresh greens and protein for the ladies once the snow covers everything, or at least it was. I also make Kale with my Thanksgiving meal. It's traditional up here to use the fall veggies.
