The Old Folks Home

I hope your CL:s arrive in time for your flight. Otherwise they'll make a nasty surprise for whoever needs to dispose of them later.

Do they still sell incandescent bulbs in the States? They're very hard to find around here nowadays. Another example of badly implemented EU legislature. Sort of like the law that allows for cars to drive with only daytime lights in the front. People don't understand that they're driving around with dark tails before it's so dark that they need proper lights to see where they're going. Not smart legislature for a country where it's basically dark half of the year. It was better before 2011 when you had to have driving lights on all the time.
The bulbs I bought were "specialty" .

Very small reflector types but inexpensive.

I have been using US 110v 40 watters in my brooders and have not had one blow compared to one a week with the bulbs available in the Philippines. Running them through the volatage regulator probably has something to do with it but as prices are equivalent, I will use the same design with a lower output.

The eggs did not arrive.

The tracking number still says that they have not been received at the post office so the onus us now on the shipper to prove he actually sent them. I will file with paypal if he doesnt and let him file with post office. I have another set of Ameraucanas that left the PO is SC on sat but thats the last update so they are also lost. I will have to file for them myself.

I am off to do a 5 hr round trip for some local eggs this afternoon.

I repacked my box last night - I felt like Manny Pacquio trying to get into a weight class - final result 69.8 pounds. I dont have anythying that is 3oz to top it up with. lol

The suitcase needs 32 more pounds but I have atleast double that as options.

I am waiting for the LED lights to come down in price.

LEDs are awesome

They are readily available in Asia. Prices in the last 6 months have dropped to 1.3x the proce of CFL and they last 3x longer.

they are available in 3,5,7,9,11and 13 watts. They are now $3-6 bucks each. The light output is around 9x that of incandescant.

here is a little example of the advantages

LED CFL Incandescent
Light bulb projected lifespan 50,000 hours 10,000 hours 1,200 hours
Watts per bulb (equiv. 60 watts) 7 14 60
Cost per bulb $5.00 $3.95 $1.25
KWh of electricity used over 450 700 3000
50,000 hours
Cost of electricity (@ 0.10per KWh) $45 $70 $300
Bulbs needed for 50k hours of use 1 5 42
Equivalent 50k hours bulb expense $5.00 $19.75 $52.50
Total cost for 50k hours $50.00 $89.75 $352.50

that was my research as well... Back before CFLs came out in massive quantities. But at that time LEDS were around 30 bucks each.

There is some part of me that wants to run DC just for lighting.... It would save even more because those leds require a bit of a transformer to change AC into DC... which causes some power loss.

But I am only enough of an electrician to change a light bulp and maybe an out let... One hand No rings and power off at the breaker.... anything else i need someone to tell me what to do.

Wisher1000 Did you eat it? If it wasn't full of antibiotics : ) you'd given it for the respiratory infection it had, it would have been fine to eat. The hard part you did; plucking, gutting and cooking is the easy part.
