I swear, I must be chicken insane....
Today I finally got the last of my house chickens (all two of them, Lucy the supposed CCL and TeJae the TJ egg) out of my home office and into the coop. I realized that the coop girls (Pat the OE and the 3 RSL's) were not using the loft roost, so I took out the roost bar and put in a small wire dog kennel that fit the space. Genius! With the tray removed the chicken poop falls right onto the PDZ in the roost tray. Lucy and TeJae are enjoying their on-high aerial cage; the other four chickens in the coop are all saying the longhand version of "What the ***? What the ***?" It's pretty funny to have a chorus of three-syllables and you know that's exactly what they're saying. Pat wandered up the roost ladder to have a better look and a stare down, which didn't faze the two birds a bit.
Then I went to the Growers Market in the Post Office parking lot today and -- oh, my! -- somebody was selling fertile eggs. I caved. It must be empty incubator syndrome or something. The bright side is that -- hey! -- I'll be in the NYD hatch-along this year AND maybe (because they're locally laid eggs) have a shot at a decent hatch rate. The downside is, of course, it ties up my office/guest room for however many months longer than was intended.

Deb,
I hope you're feeling perkier soon. It's normal to have a down day now and again. The holidays especially can trigger it. Just endure. To have peaks there must be valleys. Have a biscotti and a hot beverage!
