Even cute mice are VERY destructive. Nice little field mouse decided our irrigation station box panel was a nice place to make a nest. Irrigation was off, I went to discover why, mouse flew out forward from the box revealing nest within.... $1500 replacement of unit as the electricals were shreddy toast. Cute as all get out, but not worth the aggravation.

I rarely used the phrase OMG.BUT all those rodents. Ewww. Except maybe the grasshopper one. That's kinda cool.

Northern california will get most of the rain but when they get a boatload we get the dregs... which is a respectable amount.


Yep with the rodents.... I have heard the Grasshopper ones but I thiought they were night birds of some sort.

I can live with em all... as long as they dont invade in masse.... I keep access to water outsid the horses corral so I dont wind up drowning all sorts of critters.

A really interesting thing about the desert is you see Nothing at daytime... they mostly come out at night. So If you go out and sit in a chair and listen you hear all sorts of stuff....

Here is a sound that is very interesting the first time I heard that I thought someone had lost a dog. in the day time of course.

But no Its a road runner.... Male calling.

The ones I hear are calling from the rocks on the west side of the house.

One time at night I heard a woman screaming in the distance with a dog bark at the end. Shortly after that I started loosing chickens... either bobcat or Mountain lion the local feed store owner said it was most likely bobcat....

Probably I did have about five cats once... and now there is no food or water in the house.... No animals at all.

But seriously even before cats I really didnt have a rodent problem.

Um, he was in jail?

June had a cousin that spent several years in prison. Maybe he got ideas from him.

He performed a lot in prisons though, and worked hard to improve the conditions of penitentiaries.

One of my favorite songs is his take on Nick Cave's Mercy seat. I'm a bit of a bad fan, not so keen on his original stuff, more on his interpretations.
