The Old Folks Home

all I know is they have to be shipped with a health certificate. Watermellon or mellon of some sort is a good choice for food and water if they are going to be a couple of days in transit Just zip tie it to the box so it doesnt slide about. This is all I know about shipping grown birds.

My postoffice is hilarious. When I went to get my Guinea Keets I asked how often they get animals shipped through them. She said we get alll sorts.. From Crickets to full on Chickens and ducks. I guess Insects are one that is a big one.... Crickets, Roaches, lady bugs, ... And another is snakes.... and reptiles.

Good luck. the post office may be albe to answer some logistics questions for you.

Here's the USPS rules guidelines for the local post offices.
Instructions for USPS Postmasters
Mailing Live Animals
Any office shipping live animals must call the District Expedited
Services Office (ESO), which coordinates and clears such shipments. The ESO will tell you where to drop off your "live" shipment and notify the
accepting office.
The availability of a drop-off site may vary depending on
transportation or the retail site's ability to handle large volumes. The ESO
tries to make acceptance points for live animal shipments widely available

That is insane..... Why wouldn't hungry poor people want homemade bread and backyard eggs?

That is right there with people bathing every day, and communities not letting people dig through construction trash!!!

Health regulations.

I think hungry people would love to have the homemade bread and fresh eggs.

why not give bread to chickens?
Too high in salt and very low in protein so if only giving a little, it's OK.
But it shouldn't be very much of the total intake.

I am almost all ready for Christmas. I have one present I have to finish up and get in the mail but it will be late thanks to the online store I had to order the components from. :/ I have DH's presents at the house. I already put the BBQ together. I will just stick a bow on that. I have to wrap the rest of them. Not too many for under the tree since his "big" present is an RC airplane. I bought the plane, he buys the rest of the things needed (radio and servos). DH is making me a sewing station and that would be done except the cutting mat he ordered for the top is the wrong size and the wrong kind. We will probably get that after the holiday. No worries. I have already started using the storage space for my fabrics. He swears up and down he has the "best present ever" for me. I don't know what it is but only have to wait two more days to find out. I am a bit concerned about what he considers the best present. Don't tell him, but he is usually a bit off on hitting the mark on presents unless I tell him exactly what to order. ;) To his credit he does try very hard to get it right and I love him for the effort more than the gifts themselves. He may drive me crazy most days but he is a good guy and a really good husband. All of the kids are done as are the "moms". Ready to just relax for a few days after tomorrow. We have to come in for some time and then we are off till Monday. :weee

dsgard, I'll be waiting to know if your hubby "hit the mark," this year.

He does get

for trying anyway. A sewing station - wow that is great. Wonder what SCG is getting.

Diva I will definitely share what DH gets me. If nothing else, I am sure it will be more exciting than the pants and bluray player I got him as "filler" gifts. Here is our forecast for Christmas Eve and day

MAJOR WINTER STORM HEADED FOR UTAH CHRISTMAS DAY!

Major impacts:
Travel on the highways and byways WILL come to a near standstill Christmas day from Idaho to Kanab.
Airport delays or possible closures WILL occur.
UDOT, county and city road crews will be working all day Christmas and the day after.
Children everywhere will be amazed that a White Christmas is happening, and fortunately will be out of school.
Ski resorts will hail this as a Godsend, but it will be difficult to get to the resorts Christmas day.
Avalanche danger is off the chart in all of the mountains and mountain valleys.
Much colder temperatures could cause pipes to freeze.

Events
Christmas Eve will be warm and windy as the storm approaches.
Rain and snow will turn quickly to snow early Christmas Day
4-8 inches of snow is expected in the valleys, with a FOOT or more on the benches by Friday morning. The mountain valleys will see 12-18" of snow, while the mountains will see 1-2 feet.
Additional snow showers will occur over northern Utah Friday, while conditions will improve across southern Utah.
Temperatures will drop like a rock and stay VERY cold through the first of the year, with additional smaller storms expected Sunday and again next week.
Very strong winds will accompany the storm in the valleys initially then settle down by afternoon, while the mountain winds will continue through Friday.
Stay tuned to 2News for the latest on this developing Christmas storm.

The food banks here are govt. regulated just like everything else, and the food usually has to be USDA inspected type stuff for them to be able to distribute it. No home made goodies. Here, they won't take non USDA eggs, or fresh vegetables grown in a garden either. Some of the shelters will accept, and cook the homegrown vegetables to use with their meals in their food lines. Restaurant owners used to be able to feed some of the needy, and/or donate food, then write it off on taxes, but our govt. has put a stop to most of that here too.

Wow!!!

Stuff like that makes me more than a little ticked at the government.

Crazily stupid. And so frustrating.

Our food pantry is a true, no government charity..... We even hand out expired food, we just put it on a "risky food" table.

People are always bringing extra stuff from their gardens.

The stuff that is really nasty is given to some pig raiser.
