I need to start lobster/shrimp stock and begin my gumbo for tonight.

I'm kinda miffed my bf won't let me grow okra. He loves my gumbo. But he also didn't know what file was even though I explained it to him several times.. I'm of the opinion that gumbo needs okra and file powder.

ohh I need a good gumbo recipe! btw just a heads up dont ever buy gumbo at a restraunt in wa state they have NO clue what gumbo is... what is file powder?

alton browns shrimp gumbo is the real deal. To it we add okra, crabmeat, and fish...The baked roux works great

alton browns shrimp gumbo is the real deal. To it we add okra, crabmeat, and fish...The baked roux works great

gosh how much I wish I had my old gumbo recipe..teach me not to make it for years and forget.................I dont care for red gumbo...like a good brown dirty seafood gumbo...wish I could rememebr the rue base it's what made the gumbo

ok so it has thickening process? what does the flavor of it give tot he mix? only sassafras I been exposed to would be sassafras rootbeer

I was born in Mobile, Alabama. Almost my entire family lives in the gumbo capital of the world. His recipe tastes as close to authentic as Ive ever seen. I do add some things to it. But his recipe is a good 1
