I love our "crock pots". Actually I have one Nesco roaster large enough to roast a turkey but is also able to be used as a slow cooker. Perfect for huge batches of venison chili for the deer camp crowd. I'm not even sure how many "casserole" type crock pots of different sizes I have. I just know my daughter last year talked me out of my brand new "traveler" 6 quart with the locking lid and carry bag. I had't even tried it out yet!!! Oh, she's my girl, whatcha going to do?

Boy, nothing like a crock pot full of a venison roast sitting in it's juices and seasonings waiting to be turned into pulled roast and piled onto fresh rolls, horse radish and mild melter cheese like provolone waiting for you after a long day in the crisp fall air working with the animals and putting the gardens to bed.

What type of seasonings do you use? That sounds delicious. I might have to try that this week.
 
Deb, I would never serve someone something they're not comfortable eating (except for lamb to my sister - she loves it when she's unaware of what she's eating. Even her boyfriend makes it for her without her knowledge sometimes).

I have a Nesco roaster too. I did our Christmas Prime Rib in it. Yummers! Just dropped it in and turned it on. Was prepped in package from butcher, so even I couldn't screw it up. I'm thinking of getting the connecting ones for the family reunion for us to share. We have like 3 outlets for 200 of us at the hall so someone is always unplugging someone else secretly and that just isn't food-safe. I figure if I bring these to share I don't have to subject anyone to my cooking.

My mother always told me, "If you go to someone's house you MUST eat what they serve you." I have been a very picky eater all my life.Consequently I always wormed out of lunch or dinner invitations. One lady is still mad at me because several years ago, I told her I couldn't make it. She still brings it up every time I accidentally run into her. She says "Your father showed up and he loved the meal." Isn't there a statute of limitations for griping like that? Sheesh.
 
I once had a small cooker that my dog won at a show. It was pottery(I guess you call it) and only had low and high. My mom used it for years to make beans. But, it never seemed to get very warm. She basically used a pressure cooker but, had a few mishaps with it not being sealed correctly before using. That scared the daylights out of me and my older sister.
My sister, the brave, started using pressure cookers after she got married. I am still afraid of them, even just seeing the picture on the box, at Walmart. No way.


I have researched many times for slow cookers and find too much conflicting info. I just need a small one for maybe 2-3 servings - otherwise I will eat myself to death with leftovers.
Reading comments on line - it seemed like many said if a slow cooker worked for a year, it was a miracle. Some said theirs started to fail much earlier. There aren't many small ones on the market. I am the nervous type that would not have them cooking over night or when I am not home. I would use when I am home all day and keep an eye on it. I would love to attempt things like pulled pork, or pulled chicken etc.

Any suggestions? The only small I found was one that basically kept your lunch( 1 serving) warm - too small.
