The Old Folks Home

Yup... My biggest problem with the expansion is the loss of moisture in the feed. Of course before the feed starts to overflow the liquid that settles to the bottom overflows. This causes the feed to dry a bit and the consistency becomes one that does not flow easily... The only thing I can come up with is a little bit ridiculous in it's complexity... Anyway the idea would be to have a small tube that was pretty much at the very bottom, it would drain into the top of the bucket, I don't know if that makes sense or not... Pretty sure it won't work anyhow...

Yep it wont work because the water seeks level. But you could put a circulating pump in the loop. A sump pump would handle any granual material .... And you coud put an out gas tube on the container.... the kind you use for home brewing. The whole deal would keep the food moist too

For what its worht FF generates its own heat a bit much like compost does.... So just some added warmth to the base and circulating the water youd be good to go because the warm bottom water would be percolated down over the top.

Still havent thought through an idea for using fermented feed for my future flock. wow talk about alliteration.... But I am thinking a screw type delivery system through a horizontal tube and access to each pen through ports along the tube. .... I have considered it for dry feed though. thats how they feed the big chicken houses....

Yeah I figured that out in my head (the water seeking a level part) I picked up a burper for making wine to put on my feeder and I lost it...
But I thought that would work well it would just let out enough pressure that it wouldn't overflow...
Deb you're so smart :)

Edit to add I keep looking at swine feeders for for ideas...

He sold our 2 big brahma boys. Separated the remainder of our flock to meet "our" goals.(his). I'm pretty sure he is going to dig out all of the veggie seeds he has promised out soon. He buried the dead eggs from the new years hal. Cleaned the bator. I for 1 am kinda enjoying his vacation

I'm thinking this is your vacation. LOL

AL, I still keep thinking I might do one like that too. Would solve the run to the store to get feed again now where to put it problem. My storage is 3x6 with a swinging door for feed, shavings and supplies. Come on spring. Expansion cannot come soon enough.

What? I missed out..did Bama get another vacation? Sounds like the better half is enjoying this vacation more than he is.

Still cold here... next 2 days we have wind chill warnings. Today the goats didn't even get opened up, they spent the whole day in the barn. I was lucky they didn't riot and destroy the place. Two more days of this... likely they'll burn the place down in protest.

At least they'll be warm.

For those with goats, I use those rubbermaid totes for hay. They work amazing... much less hay wasted.

LOL.... I used bacon grease instead of butter... But when I cook bacon I cook the whole pound because the LOCUSTS get into it....

There was plenty of meat and it came out fabulous... My son is kind of particular aobut beef. and he ate a good half pound of the loaf.....

Surprisingly the cinnamon was a very delicate flavor in the dish... and the Basil in combination with the Cinnamon was out of this world flavorful...

Grandma only noticed that I didnt put tomato paste in it or catchup on top. But she ate a hearty slab of it any way....

Yeah, I can't just cook a few slices of bacon either. NEVER gonna happen. On the cinnamon you sound like Rachel Ray talking about adding nutmeg and people saying "What IS that"..... Yes, mine will be grocery store beef but, you know, work with what you have. I will be making this.

Nutmeg is my go to secret spice for pasta too and an egg dropped in after the pasta is almost cooked. *tip from an old italian grandmother friend of mine*
