The Old Folks Home

My sister gave this plant to me. Karin and I have a reputation of killing every indoor plant we've ever had - even cacti. She assured me this one won't die, it still hasn't. It's even grown almost a foot since we got it. It's a Mother-in-laws tongue, or snake plant. (Sansevieria trifasciata)

All the horsy talk made me so nostalgic. I miss my horses. I still dream of owning a proper amount of acreage to rescue some of the poor animals that are rounded up every year off the government land and sold at auction and just be able to let them finish their lives they way they started. They hold one of those wild horse auctions every few years a couple hours south of here. Sadly, many of them wind up "working" on the boy scout camps and "resorts" scattered thru the northwoods. Yeah, I know, that's not supposed to happen to them, you sign a purchase contract, but they don't do a very good job of tracking the animals and everyone knows it.

We had a beautiful day yesterday, actually got above freezing and the chookies had a wonderful time playing in the sunshine on the new trails DH cut for them with the snowblower (his excuse to be outside too). I even toddled around outside with the girls for a bit. The ladies have decided they remember me BTW (and I've even already been able to pick up at least two of them without an explosion) either that or they don't care as long as I bring them treats

. Still not behaving like the pesky little puppies the way they did before, but friendlier each time I go out.

Today is back to normal. It was 12o F when I went out to take care of the chooks this morning with the wind blowing so hard it was snowing horizontally. At least the sun has been struggling to pop out the last few minutes which should be making the chooks back to hiding in the greenhouse happy.

Time to go grab a fresh cup of coffee and curl up with the Kindle. Have a great Sunday everyone and happy hatching

My desk is covered in cats... No wait there's a fish tank that was a brooder on my desk and cats on the island counter... 3 of them...

My desk is currently covered in computers (took work computer home this weekend) and extra monitors. My kitchen table still has the (albeit now clean) 3 incubators on it. There's a giant 4x2 brooder in the living room and a large bag of meal worms on the floor. Home.

I kill all indoor foilage too, mostly. Except for the science experiment a while back with the organic/non sweet potatoes. Those vines were crazy. I am always looking for some really fool the eye fakes. They are hard to find.

I have had an indoor plant for more than 15 years, now. It's some kind of succulent or spineless cactus that I got as a clipping off my ex-mother in law's plant (prior to even being married). It goes to the front porch in summer so I don't have to deal with it, but it spends the majority of the year inside the house trying not to die. Unfortunately the last two summers have been very hard on it - the goats discovered it was delicious - and it was thus knocked off the porch and had its pot broken, and then half of it was consumed by the goats before I could rescue it. It's still alive and finally starting to recover. I have no idea what it is, but for those of you that kill things, I highly recommend it.
