The Old Folks Home

I have a crack in the egg in my bator marked 1/5, I'm about to maybe hatch my first ever egg

I'm just beside myself. Talking to it. My bf laughs very hard every time he hears me.

And the 2 ayam cemani roos with the crow reduction surgery are so loud we had to make them "shut up hats" for night time/early morning

, the cup has a lot of vent/breathing holes. It's held on by vet wrap, unfortunately Reginald gets out of his by himself. The past 2 mornings I have had to chase him to pick him up to remove the cup from him as he has it on his back. It's hard b/c I'm laughing at him b/c he has a cup on his back.

What we do to try to control crowing in the suburbs. I expect code enforcement to come say something about the noise eventually. Trying to convince my bf to send these guys to freezer camp is not working yet. He's threatened it for 2 weeks in a row, then comes up with a shut up hat.

Does it work?

Yes it works. My bf said the sweetest sound he heard yesterday was the alarm clock and being able to hit the snooze buttons a few times.

Unfortunately one can not keep it on the rooster all day and night. :(

LOL Poor bf!

I moved the roosters from the coop right outside my window--- turkeys don't crow at gaawwwd aweful hours!!!! lol

Next storm due tonight-- and another in a couple days. . . .

I cannot even imagine that much snow!

Stay safe and warm.

Chicka I would be happy with two eggs today seeing how my girls are only just starting to lay again after taking November, December and most of January off.

Congrats on the laying again!

I only had a few take time off thank goodness. But one of my EE's finally laid me a nice green egg yesterday! That's funny because I just called the feed store and ordered 8 EE's! lol
Most of my birds are not affected by the cold they might for a short molt.

It's not the cold so much as molting, age (all of mine are over two years old) and amount of sunlight (it is actually mostly this). I would put lights in to keep them laying but I figure they work hard most of the year so they can have some time off. ;)

I bought a few hatchery pullet chicks from the hardware store last year. I bought several, telling Hubby that I was thinking about selling the extra eggs to help defray the cost of keeping them . . . . There are 3 EE's, just because I have always liked the goofy things. All of the EE's we have had in the past laid eggs that were some shade of green or brown. Well, one of these gals is laying very pretty blue eggs, and Hubby is absolutely enchanted with them! "Who is laying the blue eggs? You ought to raise a bunch of those - they'd probably sell like crazy at the co-op!"

You'd think he'd know better than to encourage a person with both chickens and rabbits, wouldn't you?
