Speaking of geeks.
I initially liked just using computers but a buddy of mine dragged me kicking and screaming into dissecting every part of the machine, software and registry.

I later became a technical trainer and automation engineer. Our facility started with 4 robotics instructors, 2 PLC (programmable logic controller) instructors and a relay logic/VFD instructor. Eventually they were all replaced by 1 - me.
I worked all 3 shifts teaching programming of welding, sealing, painting, laser and material handling robots, integration of robotics with all the other systems including projection and spot welding, barcode reading and writing and vision systems including a 3 D vision system that robotically installed windshields just using a bit of math based on the point in space of 4 corners - 2 on the front of the roof and one each on the A pillars. Between cameras and induction sensors we could identify every part of the vehicle and its location in relation to the others within half a mm. It would also show if there were a hole missing in the vehicle before it became a problem in the assembly process. We had the first laser robot in North America. Blah, blah, blah, I won't go on. BOORING!!!

Deb, here's the link I read about it in, haven't gone looking for the download itself.

Dualhead monitor setups, that's something I like. When I still lived at home with my parents, I had two 17" CRT monitors set up to my desktop puter, that took a lot of space... but it's so much better when you need to research and produce something at the same time, you don't need to print out something or flip between windows, you can just have everything visible all the time. Don't have that kind of a setup at home anymore, but maybe I should remedy that. I do have two TFT's sitting in storage collecting dust.

That was pretty interesting. You could hold your hand 2 ft. from the laser with no damage yet it would cut precision holes in roofs of vans for roof racks.

The other interesting thing was that all tasks had to be completed in well under a minute.

The laser robot cut 14 holes in the roof including sending out the previous unit and bringing in the next in about 50 seconds.

I used to be super geeky, but I haven't followed as closely... When I was 15 I still kept track of pretty much every component in the market, but there are way too many players to keep track of everything nowadays, and I've also lost interest. But back then I knew the differences between every processor and graphics card etc that came out.

Chicki, as long as it's majorly updated from what it is now. I really like the mobile phone metro UI, but they messed it up badly in the puter version. And the need for separate versions of a software to run it in metro and desktop? Ridiculous. Also, they've messed up how the VKB works in desktop, that's a major pain when using firefox or IE on the tablet puters. Luckily, chrome seems to work a bit better. There at least the VKB is opened automatically when clicking text input fields.

Ok, I'm going to stop talking puters now, this is getting way too in depth for a chicken site
