The Old Folks Home

Diva, that was more a thing of the past though. They often grew in places where horses went poopoo, so I don't know about the risk anymore... but getting dirt in an open wound is never a good idea. If you don't have any cuts on your hands, I don't think it's an issue.

Our Birthday girl...(drumroll please)...the now SIX year old (omg they grow fast) Maddesyn!

This was my gift.

Felix - this bare handed gardener always has cuts and boo boos - usually from gardening first, then thinking gloves would have been a better idea, later. Don't have horses on this block BUT the dog next door seems to potty all over my front & side yard. Icky !!

Diva, I think you'll be pretty safe if you keep your vaccines up to date. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think tetanus should be good for at least ten years, might even be longer if you've gotten the shot a couple of times.

Baking is good! If you can bake you will always have friends.

(Hennible/Bama, that's "bake" using an oven.... Although I suppose the other is true, too)

DH came home to rip apart the the snowblower. Broken belt . . . and NO one has one in stock.

No way! We have Daffodils and Tulips coming up!
Daffodils are coming up here but it was 6F last night and about an inch of snow on the ground. Not too far north of here it was -15 last night. This was only the 3rd night this winter in the single digits. What a mild winter. No wonder the bulbs are emerging.

Daffodils come up at the end of January here.

Almond festival is soon and they will be blooming then. My Plumb tree will bloom soon too.
Braggart!!!

Cyn, now that is cruel.

Bad news here - another chick of the exact same breed (splash swedish isbar) has the exact same leg problem, same side and all. I've splinted it since I caught it the first day, but this one will likely be culled tomorrow.
Could it be a breeder issue?

My browser got hijacked yesterday and I have been working on my computer ever since! I only go on a few pages but had just been on here. It was called Isearch and I finally got rid of it but had to call my IE provider to help me set the proxy settings to get online. I used my nook earlier. So frustrating! I had been using spybot and AVG and have not had anything like that happen to me before! I thought I was going to have to reformat my HD. UGH!
At least that mess is done.
...
I had that happen a couple times, a few computers ago. It would change the homepage and removed the home tab so I couldn't change it.
I dug into the registry and fixed it once. On the other occasion I used HijackThis.

Humidity has been holding at 64%, but just dropped 1%. Hatching is taking longer than 21 days for me so far

The incubator fluctuates from 99.8-100.3f. The humidity this hatch has remained consistant at 64% . The beak is out, it's peeping. Just very slow progress.
I don't consider that a huge fluctuation. It could easily be how rapidly (*or slowly) the thermometer reads.

We only have a choice between 18, 22, and 28% at the feed store here for baby birds. I don't like Purina foods, I had really bad luck once with it and wasn't treated well when I brought it to their attention (it was covered in grain mites). BF will see if they have the 18% in stock and we'll switch to it if they do since these birds are definitely predisposed to the leg issues. I have used the 22% (or 28% once) without issues for 5 years and many hatches, though (except I raise ducklings on the really low protein layer pellets after a week of the crumbles). So I'm thinking it's the breed. But I will do what I can to hopefully "save" the last one from having the same issue.
The problem with many feeds is how the retailer stores it.
The TSC near me (about 1.5 hours roundtrip) apparently has a roof leak. On 2 different occasions, several of the bags were moldy. It was lucky I opened one when I got home and returned it immediately or they wouldn't have believed it was their fault.
The next time, I raised holy cain cause of the time and mileage, they gave the feed to me for half price.
