The Old Folks Home

Replacing the clutch is just the smart thing to do even if it isn't bad, your already in there. I made the mistake of when I changed the tranny in my F-250 I didn't change the rear main engine oil seal it was right there but it wasn't leaking. It started leaking bad about a year later. I do all my mechanical work, replacing engines, transmissions, head gaskets, timing belts, almost everything. Self taught, do like paying $$$.
Ran our caravan last year with a leaky powersteering line, finally changed the whole steering rack, and then found out the pump was shot also. Took a month to finish it but we have three vehicles, (never know what one will break down) we only paid $1,200 for the van with 110,000 miles, I'm not going to spend big $$ to fix something on it.

We had to replace a water heater this winter and a cook top last month. That happens as houses/appliances age.

I know. I just hate that it is all happening so close together. It is making it tough to get one paid off before another one breaks at this rate. I am done ranting. Sorry.
Thanks everyone.

x2! I would work on a car in a minute!!! I used to do all my own car repairs. Now my daughter calls me to ask what is wrong with hers. lol

That's a problem sometimes, once the family knows you can do it they are always hounding me to work on theirs. I actually absolutely HATE working on my own vehicles. The only reason I do is I've saved probably many thousands of dollar$ in the last 20yrs. I bought a hand tire changing machine from TSC a few yrs ago, now I have so many people wanting me to change tires for them. I don't mind if they drop them off and I can get to them when I feel like it but most the time I end up removing them from the vehicle. The only person that actually compensated me was one of my brothers, he dropped off a liter of Jim Beam Devils Cut! I told him I'd change tires in a blizzard for him Lol!

Quote: I know but everyone knows I can't do it any more. But they still ask questions or bring up something going on. I was offered a job at a parts store once because I was in there buying parts and fixing cars or trucks. And from from the time my youngest daughter was 2 she always climbed in the engine to help! She's good now! Most people cannot believe her when she tells them her momma taught her. I never did anything but change a tire or take it to get a plug or buy tires. But I made sure all my girls could check the water, oil and transmission fluid and change a tire if they wanted to drive they got out there and learned. I had to teach a 18 yr. old how to change a tire on evening she gave me a ride home from work and got a flat. I made sure she learned how to do the next one.
