The Old Folks Home

I don't drink - don't like the taste, but, I hope some bozo doesn't start up restrictions on buying ice cream - that would be calamitous to me.

I don't drink either Diva. I sure hope the mayor of NY does not start a trend where we can't have what we want here! DH and I love ice cream! I don't know what we would do if we could not have some now and then!

Has anyone had success with a rooster bachelor pad? I have not, multiple times. The roosters turn really mean, turn against each other and try to mate the ones lower on the pecking order. That makes the lowest ones on the pecking order not eat. I've had to remove 2 roosters - one for turning into bones and the other for losing all his tail feathers and constantly getting ridden by the other roosters...

I guess this weekend I'll be processing naughty roosters. Not that they're completely ready weight wise, but I am ready for them to go.

I have heard that bachelor flocks need to be out of eye sight of the hens... But I suspect they need more room than an integrated flock....

Just thinking out loud here.

They were in 100 square feet (10 of them) hoop house. The past couple days they've only been sleeping in the hoop house, it's been open for them to free range. And the boys have zero interest in the girls... there are quite a few adventurous girls that fly over the fence and roam around all day. The boys still only have eyes for each other.

The weather had not been cooperating and my run construction was delayed first by the landscapers who were busy in the compound for a week putting in some railroad tie beds and 21 tons of gravel and then by rain last weekend (when I wanted to work) and so the push was to get the roof of the run done before the weather hit later today. So yesterday and this morning I was jamming on shingling...a task I don't particularly enjoy because there's an innate fear of heights and gyrations on the ladder. I was putting the ladder away from my finished task just as the first raindrops fell. Lots of folks driving by slowing for a good look. I anticipate birds will be using it by Friday as all that's left is putting in doors, attaching the chicken gangplank ramp and hooking up the solar charger for the coop door. At last the end of this project is in sight!

Chicken run roof is done!

I really loved putting on the finishing touches.... How cool is
this!

Beautiful.

I wish my coop were pretty. It's very functional but not pretty.
