I will withhold my comments on" rhubarb slop "on ice cream. I am sure it is a sinful attack on ice cream. But, I am not judging you.![]()
No, I don't know anyone who had two kitchens. But in the older days I knew people with pantries. I think they are making comebacks in the new hotsy totsy houses

Here summer kitchens include a barbeque island a patio cover and even cook tops and refrigerators.
When its already 80-90 outside might as well not heat up the inside of the house....LOL.

I totally understand a new modern out door kitchen for bbq's and family gatherings! Love them!
But my DH and I don't know anyone that had two kitchens in the house. Back in the Antebellum house days they had an out door kitchen and an indoor kitchen. But DH is 60 and his mother and grandmother only had one kitchen and my grandparents only had one kitchen. Maybe some did, I just never heard of them unless they were very rich I guess.![]()

I think they were pretty much an east coast deal and date back to colonial times. Where the whole kitchen was in a building separate from the house completely... because of the fire hazard. I can imagine older homes like that were"modernized" often times they got torn down or absorbed by room additions....
I have talked online with Draft horse people who are in the Midwest and that was where I first heard the term "summer kitchen" That was about fifteen years ago.

We live in an old farm house that was built in 1855 or so and the kitchen, den, bathroom and two bedrooms and a front porch were all added on at some point. The wiring in this house is still the old fuses. We have old out buildings some of old wood and one of bricks. And our well house. This was a 200 acre farm and my DH's brother sold most of the old place down to 80 acres.
