The Old Folks Home

I remember "Francis the talking mule," and he came long before "Mr.Ed," which I watched faithfully. Rin Tin Tin used to Bark and Lassie would whine, but there was a show called the "People's Choice" with a Basset Hound named CLEO,that didn't speak but the audience could hear her thoughts.

Of course the "Baretta," tv show had Fred the Cockatoo that would answer the phone with a "Hewwo." "My Mother the Car," - don't ask - I guess people were desperate for tv shows of any kind.

When we were younger we were always looking forward to birthdays - double digits, official teenager, driving age, voting age (smoking age), alcohol. After that there's not much left to look forward to. I haven't seen too many people excited to hit Medicare.
We should come up with some milestones so there's something to look forward to.
Same here, downhill after the 'milestone' ages. Can't take it back, though we wish we could... New milestone? Retirement and not having to work, that would be good. What am I? 39 I think, holy crap old! Maybe I need a Harley.....

'Wild Hogs' good funny getting old movie,

bama started watching 'Eastbound & Down', super hilarious! It's on Amazon prime. Then the kids walked in and I had to shut it off lol! Good funny getting 'old' show also I think, have to watch more.......

I was messing with you, I knew what you meant.

I used to say that I wanted a DNR and that I wouldn't want to be kept alive by a machine, or even live with major physical limitations.

That changed when I had children. Now, if I had to choose between death and life in a wheelchair watching my kids grow up and have families of their own, I'd choose the chair. Only, that is, as long as they weren't burdened by me. If they had to take care of my personal needs, or get into financial hardships to pay someone to, I'd rather they lose me and get past the grief.

I think about those things, too, sometimes. So much so, that I have been planning my final arrangements (casket, music, flowers, plot, headstone, etc.) and paying for them so that my family doesn't have to make any choices or hard decisions, nor have to figure out how to pay when they are grieving. My siblings and I had to plan Mom's funeral in the days after she died. That is one of the hardest things I have ever done. My kids will be able to just grieve. They will know that "This is what Mom wanted."

How's that for morbid?

Now, let's change the subject. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Perchie Girl Deb!
I just had to add one more thing on this topic. Years ago, our whole family got plots in the local cemetery, because they were running out of room. My grandparents all did the prepaid plans with the local funeral home. When my grandfather passed, everything was all prearranged, so nothing really to do. A couple days before the funeral, we went clothes shopping, mostly for my young daughters. When we got home, there were quite a few messages on the answering machine from the funeral home saying "This is URGENT, please call immediately". Mom called. They had gone to dig his grave space, and there was already someone in it. Apparently it had not been marked on their charts as being unavailable when they sold the plot. Talk about the proverbial monkey wrench. Fortunately, another family member was willing to take the reimbursement for my grandfather's plot, and surrender theirs to be used, however, it did delay the funeral a week. The funeral home paid for all the new announcements in the newspaper, and we had to call friends, and family. The best laid plans of mice, and men often go awry!

Sorry Oz, but I get to add my two cents to the conversation and then I am done.
I believe in DNR's for specific reasons. Not for reasons such as if I were going to be paralyzed but if I have head trauma where I do not have hope of recovering consciousness. I also feel people should be allowed to die with dignity and choose to have a DNR if that is what they want. Obviously this is a very personal choice and I think it should always be up to the individual. Now when it comes to being buried, nope not for me. I completely understand people who wish to be buried but have no wish at all to moulder away in a grave. Spread my ashes on the trails and I will be happy.
All that being said, not planning on dying any time soon. Plan on pounding out miles and miles of trails in my life still. :D

On a better note, I think the new Jurassic Park movie comes out this Friday. This is one I am planning on seeing on the big screen. We don't go to the movies very often. In fact I don't watch too many movies at all anymore mainly because it seems like most movies have a very weak plot and rely on CGI and explosions to carry the day. I don't mind action but I want the story behind it to be just as good. Take the first Taken movie. Full of action but a really good story too. By the last one that came out on DVR about a month or so ago, I was sick of them. All I could think was, I would kill Liam Neeson's character if I were in his family because I wouldn't want to be taken or killed myself. Don't get me wrong, I like Liam and his acting but three movies with pretty much the same plot just more action and explosions as the episode number increased is lazy film making to do noting but make the studio richer IMO. I am really hoping that this Jurassic Park isn't just a rewarmed script with more action and explosions too.
