The Old Folks Home

Oh, geez. Black Widows. They love dark little places like pump houses and valve boxes. They are one of the few things I hate about doing irrigation work, and one of the reasons I have drilled into my kids the notion that you don't put your hands or your feet anywhere you can't see.

(no spiders under this chair; I checked!)

Man, I would have just gotten a broom stick, or some kind of stick and hit that thing the first time I saw it. Would have run into the house pretty quick. Wait, how far is the house?

Didn't expect it, pulled the tarp off and got stung several times, wife AND sixteen yr old daughter came running out, thought I fell off the roof, was on it earlier measuring for new roof, they said I was screaming like a girl, I think they thought they were going to collect on my life insurance policy Lol!
Isn't it good for you to get stung once in a while? Pretty sure stings are good for you as long as you ain't allergic?

Speaking of which, I was weeding a garden bed when my kids were still in school and discovered a female black widow spider the size of a quarter. I placed her in a large glass mayonnaise bottle with some grass blades and punched holes in the lid. I told my daughter to ask the teacher if she could bring it in to show the kids and the teacher said no, but I could bring it in. Set up a time and I brought it in and showed all the kids. They were fascinated... The teacher, not so much... she never got within 25 feet of me and that jar

. My next project was to try and catch a poisonous snake to bring in... never could catch one

Yikes! Glad we don't have them around here, no poisones spiders. We do have timber rattlers, but they are pretty docile here and rare. Guy at work killed a huge one 'illegally' and is hoping to get a permit to have a mount, cause he already does, wants to show it at our county fair. I hope he gets it cause I would have done the same, the thing was HUGE! He killed it behind his house and it has a head the size of my fist and it was six feet long! Had a really nice mount done.

Yeah, I thought of that as I started reading this post..wondering if you were allergic. Have a daughter that is very allergic!

And dude, you have not idea how fast I can drive and maneuver a broom!

To the best of my recollection, it's honey bee stings that are beneficial for arthritis...

Hornets and wasp stings aren't beneficial for anything that I'm aware of... aside from maybe making one very angry and sore...

LOL we have paper wasps here..... they make a paper comb like thing hung from the rafters and they look like this

Mom just waited till night time and whacked them off the eves of the house with a broom handle. No spray or anything. Next day the nest would be on the ground and the Wasps would be gone... Shed pick up the nest and peel back the little caps and pull out the babies.... some would be all white with only a few black marks on them.... not yet ready to be out.... The whole thing would go into a coffee can with the lid fastened on and on into the trash....

Finally had spouse look at my itchy spots.... Spouse DOES know what chigger bites look like, and said nope.

So, I dunno why the silly spots are itching so well...

However @perchie.girl since the bites are on the outside of my ankle... And I don't have arthritis there... :idunno if your theory is true or not.... :lau

Kid #3 fell onto a fire ant mound once, and got a bunch of bites on his ankle.... he had a twisted ankle at the time, and said the bites didn't help.... He wanted me to put my arthritic hand on the mound.... But I wasn't a good sport, so refused.
