The Old Folks Home

Hi Deb!!!
I face a "weigh in" myself today. We hit the road soon for my quarterly roadtrip to my oncologist. This one's a bit different because since my last one I have been dxd with full blown T2 diabetes most likely caused by the years of the TKI chemo drugs I take (another recently discovered fun side effect) anyway, I am sure my "oval" shape did not help the issue at all.

Anyway, I think my onc will be pleased tho he doesn't know about the T2 yet. I have managed to drop 20 lbs since May even tho I am fighting against at least one new drug known to cause weight gain

I still need to drop at least another 30 to be where I'd be happy. Still wouldn't be skinny but that would be a weight I, and my drs, could literally live with. Should would be good for my banged up legs as well.
Anyway, I share all this embarassment to say this. Maybe we can go at this thing together? What you think? Just don't ask me to join you at the jogging track!

I hope you have a good blood test!

And were able to eat something tasty after the draw.

LOL.... Jogging for me is Like two steps of baby Huey... then its Dirt Sky Dirt Sky Dirt sky... as I roll down the hill. Not built for running never was. But I love love love walking. I am still too heavy right now for much. But my absolute favorite was walking with my goats.... OMG the places we went... I even climbed a couple of boulders in the process... I have to get down to three hundred pounds to be able to do that again.

We can do it at the same time... For what its worth Weight watchers was initially developed from the type two Diabetes dietary check list back in the seventies. or some time around there... its much different now... When My son was put on Metformin it aided or reinforced his weight loss program.... I believe type two is from insulin resistance... someone correct me if i am wrong. Meaning you been putting out so much insulin for so long that your body has become resistant to it.

Low carb Not NO carb but lowering your carbs helps it alot.... That was what my son was doing. He lost eighty pounds in a year.

Deb: have you heard of garcinia? My neighbor lost 110 lbs. She just stopped by to chat with Krista. I commented on how good she looked. She said she used garcinia after reading about actor Jonah Hill losing alot of weight with it. It works for her

Thank you Bama......

I have investigated it all... even the old fashioned one of taking a pill that has Tape worm larva in it.....

but bottom line weight loss barring health issues is all in what and how you eat. I wish there was a magic pill out there that would take it off... Outside of pharmacopoeia I don't know anything that does it besides changing your lifestyle.

With Weight Watchers you get lots of encouragement hand holding and commiseration... And accountability.

I finally got the courage to take my measurements... Not surprised at the results at all. But it was a good point to take a baseline... Tonight I weigh in...

For what its worth everyone.... Right now I am immersed in Weight Watchers... I am not trying to sell the program. I just have had good success with it in the past. So you will hear me talk alot about it.

The part about it is you use your own food and cooking skills... the off the shelf products are only designed for convenience... I hate fixing myself breakfast... So I buy those products.

I am also going to give the pressure canner a try soon. If I like the Mushroom Gazpacho I am making .... it will be a perfect candidate.

Quote: Ron the recommendation of the nutritionists is 300 carbs a day. Yet there is NO requirement for carbs. None.

However, certainly great vitamins, and minerals and micronutrients are derived from carb sources. . Oh just to be clear carbs are not techinically a food group. . . but I get what you mean, lol. I eat unbreaded meats, fats and veg and small amt of fruit like cherries, and berries and generally skip the grains including bread, bagels, pasta and pasteries. Grains have only "recently" been added to the human diet. I picked a wild carrot the other day and marveled at the tiny root. Tasted good. Gave the top to the rabbit. I do not go carb free. Even an egg has .5-1 carb. And hard cheese has 1 carb per ounce. and a good salad at about 2 cups of greens has about 15-20 carbs WITHOUT croutons, and without loading on lots of extras. So I live at about 50-100 carbs on average. Dinner the other night was sauteed kale, kidney beans, sausage and onions and garlic. Very few carbs.

The "foods" we eat now are not healthy, too much sugar, too much refined grains. Too much grain period. It is the insulin tht causes the damage to the linings of the arteries. . . . that study was done years ago using a dog as the subject and dripping insulin into one leg artery and saline into the other. For get the doc that did the reseach.

Great nutrition can be had from eating the low carb veg and keeping the total count down. Grass fed meats are anothe way to boost good vitamins and minerals, too.

Carbs are called grains:

http://www.choosemyplate.gov/

Kamut is mentioned in the old testament and was eaten roughly 7000 years ago.

If you eat like this, and eat whole grains you will be healthy. Watch total calories and do not go crazy with what is eaten. Following a plan like this equals better success at keeping the weight off.

Of course I just had a piece of very bad for me cake at the Monthly birthday party...
