The Old Folks Home

Racisim still exists in America though. It is not the war that is the concern.

You did read my post about bias? That is now not the past.
Sadly, it's not. And as you said, some of the people with strong biases are actually members of the group they are biased toward.

One of DD's favorite YouTubers is a young black guy. In one of his videos, he talks about "driving while black," and getting pulled over by a black female officer that apparently had a problem dealing with young black men. On another video, he talks about helping out a female friend who is selling her washer and dryer, and his alarmed reaction to the young black men who come to collect them. They were very quiet, and one of them did some sort of gesture that he didn't recognize. "It looked, well, like some kind of sign language, or something, but let me tell you, I'm from the streets, and black thugs don't do sign language!!" He says he was sure he and his friend were about to get mugged, or worse, and was having panicky thoughts about jumping out the window when it finally hit him that one of the young men actually was hearing impaired, and yes, that "black thug" was doing sign language!

But often it is the war and slavery that is brought up... Not specific racist things that need to be changed.

It is a good thing to focus on what we can do so that a person is hired for a job purely due to their ability and talents.

It is not a good thing to say that refusing to let people wear antebellum dresses will reduce bias or racism

Great discussion!

Yes, the post about bias said that a brown Muslim student had a negative bias towards brown Muslims. It was un conscious and She thought she saw people of her own race with a positive bias.

We all have biases that we need to admit and then we can work on them. Most will not admit it though.

I actually think that the swastika is slowly loosing some of the stigma... Depending on how it is used.

The symbol and flag for the isle of mann is actually just a swastika.

And there are many swastkas in Japan and northern India.

The swastika was actually used at least twice, symbolizing a large migrations of people from the general area of the Ukraine out to many corners of the world.. Including Japan, over to Ireland and the Isle of Mann, as well as Northern India and the Americas.

When seen in that light it is a super cool and fascinating thing.

GUYS I think we best get back to neutral topics - we don't want this great thread to be shut down. Maybe they will allow a separate thread to discuss in a gentlemanly/womanly manner. The points brought up are worth sharing but, I don't think this is the place.

Anyone ever had bumble in a turkey? One of my old girls got bumble real bad on one of her feet; I noticed it a few days ago but couldn't catch her. I finally was able to catch her tonight (turkeys sure are powerful) and brought her inside. I got her wrapped in a towel in what could have possibly won the big 10K prize on Americas Funniest Home Videos had it been caught and recorded. After the Terrible Towel Fiasco she seemed to have lost her will to struggle. I was able to get the scab off and the foot is really swollen, but there wasn't much of a plug inside. She also had a small "bumble" on her breast, I'm assuming it's from the roost.
She's now in the biddy hospital in the basement, but too stupid to figure out that the food and water I brought were for her and not poisoned.

In good news I got my guinea eggs today, really quick!

So I was sitting in my recliner last night and felt something crawling on me near my neck and face... At first, I thought ok, maybe a baby spider or something so I tried to brush it off but it kept coming back. I finally went to the bathroom with my glasses and found it and it turned out to be a flea!

My dogs out here in CO have NEVER had fleas! I now have fleas!

I just now gave the dogs a good hand scratching and found another one on my hand! GRRRR!!! So I guess tomorrow both dogs are getting flea shampoo baths and then a dose of frontline or some similar.

I just hope I haven't had them long enough to have eggs in the carpeting.... Been there, done that, have the T-shirt, do NOT want another!

Sorry to hear about your turkey SCG... hope it heals OK and grats/good luck on the guinea eggs!

Went to our county fair today, the only fair, county and state that didn't ban a certain flag. All poultry was banned, missed the chickens. Lots of other farm animals though. Kids had fun. They even enjoyed the horse pulls. Pony pulls were awesome, those horses were awesome, really into it. Missed most of the good stuff, only day I had off this week. The band Parmalee was playing tonight but we didn't buy tickets.
I did get the name of a American Chinchilla (rabbit) breeder. Her daughter showed them for 4H. Going to give them a call, not to far from us. I wanted giant one's but can't find any, actually surprised to see these ones their also very rare and quite large, fast growing.
