The Old Folks Home

now I keep glancing over at the danged thing to see how much longer I can doze till it goes off. Sure would be nice to get an actual full night's sleep once in a while. Can't remember the last time it happened.

This is usually what happens to me, but it figures the day my alarm messes up is the day I'm actually sleeping.

I have 4 alarms set currently:
1. go out and feed the animals
2. no, really, you need to get up now
3. take your am dose of antibiotic
4. take your pm dose of antibiotic

This is my most persistent and insistent alarm

Betsy has a voice that falls somewhere between a steam whistle, and the squeal of a very large pig. She knows when feeding time is,, and has no problem with reminding me that, "HAY LADY!! You haven't fed me yet!" Thanks to her, all of my neighbors know when feeding time is, too.

Need a recording. Let's do her versus Pippy (my goat).
Oh, man, naggy goats.

It doesn't have to be mealtime; any time they can see us, we get barraged with, "mmm-neh!" The only goats I have now are pretty elderly, but when they were younger, I could always tell when one was in season because her voice went from just a persistent nagging sound to an almost desperate scream. I can't remember how many times my husband stepped onto the back porch, put his head back in the door, and informed me, "someone's murdering Esme."

I finally counted my birds... been avoiding it. I've always said that 50 is my cut off - more than 50 and I start to get into crazy territory. Then I hit 50 birds and just stopped counting. Denial, you know?

Today I counted a total of 59 birds - including the ducks that live on their own and the chicken that thinks it's a goat plus the bad-footed turkey in the basement. Not bad, and I still have a few roosters and turkeys to get rid of before winter and add any guineas I hatch.

Some of this was due to the stupid fox and some old biddy deaths I've had, but I'm relieved. I thought I'd be closer to 75.

Chickadoodles, no new ice cream flavors but, as I was grazing through the grocery store eating samples I found a new Yoplait yogurt variety. How does "root beer float" yogurt sound? Does any of this stuff actually contain yogurt???? I am saving it for now, since I just finished a 3 pack of Dove caramel ice cream bars. Mighty fine eatin'.
