The Old Folks Home

Checked Walmart today just regular grapes :-(

Diva, almond milk ice cream is good but expensive. Our boy was allergic to milk when he was born, no soy formula either, was pooping blood. Not lactose intolerant but allergic. Formula was super expensive. Glad he outgrew it, slowly tried him on regular milk products at a yr and he was fine. Specialist said some kids don't out grow it until their teens.
They said he would be allergic to soy also, look at the labels in your cupboards, almost everything has soy in it. Spaghetti sauce, soup, bread, crackers, cereal, peanut butter, chips......Thought we were going to have to make everything ourselves.

I've also heard white flesh peaches are delicious - can't find those to try. On another thread several folks gushed over Edy's frozen custard Chocolate malt. I tried it and it was just barely feh! . What a disappointment - it was so blah to me, it didn't taste chocolate or malt. It may be my taste buds are dying.

Just my opinion, but white peaches are highly overrated too. They just don't compare to the sweetness of a good, ripe freestone yellow peach, & fresh peaches are, by far, my favorite summer fruit. They are also alot more expensive.

Thank you for your opinion Lynn. - Last year the only new product I greatly enjoyed was KIKU apples at Sam's club. They quickly became my favorite but, either they have a short season or Sam's decided to stop carrying them. I'm hoping later this year they will show up again.

Say what you will, I prefer the North Carolina White peaches. When you can get them tree ripened, they are the most delicious peach I've ever tasted.

Any tree ripened white peaches -

BB2K and I are trying an experiment. There is a wild grape vine all up in an ornamental cherry tree in our side yard, and it is bearing like nobody's business. We've decided to try our hands at making jelly. So far, we've picked 15 pounds of grapes, and there's still a lot more up there.

BB2K has accused me of deliberately bombing her with grapeshot; I wouldn't do that, would I? Not me. . .

We've got enough "owies" around here; had the vet out yesterday for the horses' fall shots. Betsy and Blondie both react badly to the shots, so they are pretty sore today. We'll be doing banamine for the next couple of days with them. Shots and Coggins tests for 5 horses - that's a major "yeeouch" for the ol' wallet, too.

Sorry for the owies!

If you do not want to make all those grapes into jelly now, you can juice them and freeze the juice for making jelly later.

I made English Muffins today!

Ron, those look phenomenal. You always make such yummy breads.

I got my act together and got the supers off the hives today. The stronger hive (red) had some honey to extract, and as predicted, the very weak blue hive had not a drop to harvest. It's amazing how well the one hive did with almost no human interaction this year. I suspect the other hive would have done good, too, had they had a queen that was effective.

I got 1.4 gallons of honey from the good hive. Because it's later in the season, the honey is darker and richer than last years (I prefer the light colored honey, but this is very tasty, too).
